China ought to turn off North Korea's oil, but it won't. It doesn't want North Korea collapsing. If the Korean peninsula ends up being unified following an NK collapse, then China would suddenly have US troops on its doorstep, with no buffer keeping them away. That would make it extremely difficult for China to continue threatening and bullying its neighbours (especially Japan, but other neighbours too), would make it difficult for China to hide its Human rights abuses, and frankly would also make it hard for China to hold onto its own people. If the Chinese people, under the control of state-run media and its oligarchy of a government; were to see the freedoms and democracy enjoyed in the newly unified Korean peninsula, they'd want that too. People would leave China, leave their dictatorial and propaganda-spouting government in favour of impartial media, un-doctored news articles, and numerous freedoms: namely freedom of speech. They'd be free of China's internet censorship as well. There's a lot that the Chinese government censors, I hear.

All of these are reason enough for China to allow North Korea to run amok, and feed them the oil to do so.

So I guess advanced economies and democracies like South Korea and Japan aren't enough to sway the Chinese people? They see North Korea and are like "Yup, that's what we want!". lol.

But I agree with the buffer thing.

considering China is basically giving the oil away, there is no way the NORKs could pay for it, there is one factor not considered in the, article.

once the oil is cut off or any other, equally damaging action happens, the NORKs could decide Beijing is a nuclear test ground. China certainly knows it would win any war with the puny country but why would China want to smack a nuclear wasp nest and feel the nuclear sting in their capital. so I don't blame them for hesitating. what should be done was formerly called the bush doctrine, pre-emptive strike. regardless of Saddam having weapons or not, Kim hung un does have them, he's making blatant threats of destruction and lobbying test missiles. just wipe the cretin country out. if China was smart, they would do the wiping if they want to keep the US military from going active a few hundred miles from Beijing.

The US turned Japan's oil supply off and then we had Pearl Harbor so such embargoes certainly have an effect by pushing the intended target to lash out.

Japan had has 70 years of peace and prosperity without offensive weaponry. Does NK really want SK and Japan to also secure a supply of nuclear weapons?
