Yrral: James II became king in 1685, but there was plotting from the first moment (very similar to all the plotting against Trump). He was tolerated until he had a son, because that ensured a Catholic succession. Also, his 1687 Declaration of Indulgence granting religious liberty to his subjects really infuriated the establishment and the Church of England. In 1688 the Whig plotters committed treason by inviting William of Orange to invade England and depose James.

The whole 'Glorious Revolution' was, in effect, a shabby, sordid coup d'etat against the rightful monarch.

But it did stop him keeping that position for long - deposed after three years. We still see the ugly results of those times in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland. I don't think even the Moonies could have caused more hate than Christianity. (Perhaps Charles III will convert to Buddhism - we can hope.)

This article is drivel. Republicans in the UK "sense their chance"???

Plus has several historically dubious statements.
