Questions of truth circle Oscar favorites

Everyone is against an award when they have never won one.

The Oscars, Grammys, Tonys, Miss Universe, etc are all b.s. anyway. Just self-love by Hollywood power brokers.

Considering many of the nominees are usually Australians, Britons and Canadians, another brilliant statement from the King's Geek.

Agree most people outside the USA(maybe japan) don't really care about the Oscars or who won.

Lets see Avatar is generally hated by the SF fans as are most of the 3D Movies(for being over-rated).

I watch a movie if the story sounds good(ex Black Swan, Social Network don't appeal to me), not into movies that only give SFX and action aka The Green Hornet, etc.

IMHO, way too many prequels, sequels, remakes, etc coming out of hollywood.

Granted the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie looks way better than the last 2 combined.

Is it getting less relevant to the world what some Americans like to watch.

"dogged by questions of veracity." It's not as if either film is posing as a documentary. Someone's stretching matters a bit, to get a headline.

it's not about being historically-correct, which is more or less impossible, but about being politically-correct. that's the big obsession nowadays

I like Fincher's statements: "(accuracy is important, but) it's a sliding scale".

Anyway, people need to relax. It's not like Titanic was truthful or all that historically accurate or anything, aside from the boat sinking.

Both sound like good movies, although The King's Speech sounds more enjoyable and Social Network slightly less intellectual.

The Kings Speech was a great. BBC version of a "bro"mance.

I saw "The King's Speech" and found it a much better movie than "The Social Networ." Yes it is somewhat inaccurate, but as a poster pointed out, the main emphasis was the king and his impediment. It may have glossed over some of the aspects, but it did get the point that when he needed to speak at the beginning of WW2 he was able to do it.

I hope it wins.

OK, an admittedly stupid question, but does anyone know whether "The King's Speech" will be dubbed in Japanese here, or just with sub-titles? In either case, how will the key element of the movie -- his stammering --really come through to non-english speakers?

could not care any less about the oscars. EXCEPT for the 1st time in over ten years I have 1 intrest. I just hope T Reznor and Atticus get the oscar.

I guess Christopher Hitchens(who I happen to like) and "The New Republic" have never heard of "based on a true story". Although there is usually a legal disclaimer in the final credits "all persons fictitious..." I wonder if that applies here?

The movie isn't really about WWII, and Churchill, Edward and Chamberlain are really nothing but ancillary players to the core story. The story is about George's efforts to overcome his stammer so that he might help rally the country to war since his idiot, ne're-do-well brother couldn't fulfill this duty. The movie is not political in the least.

The Kings Speech is released on Feb 26th in Japan

gonna see the social network this weekend. Hope its good. Havent heard anything about a release of "The kings speech" in Japanese cinemas yet unfortunately.
