a story that explores the origins of teenager Peter Parker and how he became a superhero.

I thought Sam Raimi's Spider-Man already did this.

Allow me to explain. Each movie studio buys rights to a character from Marvel Studios. This is the reason why Spiderman was not in the Avengers even though he was an Avenger.

The movie studios are REQUIRED by Marvel to produce a movie with the character within 5 years....I'm not sure about the time limit. Anyway, if the studio does NOT make a movie with the character then the rights go back to Marvel Studios and the character is up for sell again.

So, SONY Columbia studios doesn't want to risk losing the rights to Spiderman. Studios like Disney, Bad Robot or Village Roadshow would love to get their hands on him.

SONY isn't do so well as a company and they are desperately trying to buy a chunk of America's creativity and sell it's own fat back to them. They don't have a fresh story so they'll just make another origin reboot. All the characters from Avengers are already making new movies.

The remake is apparently crap, they are just cashing in on the name just prior to the official commencement of Marvel pimping the Spiderman name, which they bought the rights to recently..
