Yawn. How many 8 or 9-year-olds read GQ? GQ stands for "Gentleman's Quarterly", not "Grandkid's Quarterly". I'd be suspect of any parents who let their kids read GQ.

Religious right looking to interfere in popular culture again. Jebus the character was a knocked up cheerleader. Why would you get upset about a panty shot after that history?

i rather find it disturbing that people over the age of 16 would find a drama about cheerleaders interesting,,,,grow up people,,,watch CSI or something or other ,,read a book, take a walk,,,get a job!

Stupid controversy. Why would little kids be looking at GQ? The actresses are 24 which puts them way, way beyond any question of whether or not it's 'appropriate' to pose for such pictures (as if it's anyone's decision but theirs to begin with).

You think this is bad right wingers, come to Japan and look at the mags at a kid's eye level- a bent over 18 yr old in a G string. Kids here grow up with porn and love hotels.

Sex sells and I'm buying!

what a joke! Why are some people such prudes when it conmes to the naked body???? So silly!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

my2sense...I am not sure how u raise your kids BUT my son did not grow up with porn and love hotels....

me love you long time,,,,,,hmmm thats an interesting name,,,, anyways, i think it is not about being prudish about the naked body,,,more about how things are sexualised and portrayed to be the norm,,,when it really is just some older guy playing director

America is still as prudish as ever. These are adults, they can do what they want. If you believe every highschool kid on TV is actually high school age, then you need to get away from your TV a little more often. There is always IMDB to check those ages too if you are concerned.

TV is corporate money making. Being and actor/actress is business. What do you expect? It isn't sunday school people.

Here's a radical idea. Turn off the TV and make your kids do something creative or with the family. Or tell them to go outside and work off some of that junkfood.

One more note. You seem ok with violence everywhere but freak out when someone shows the human body. Messed up priorities people.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

meloveulongtime- if your son walks down the street or into a convenient store, he is going to see sex magazines, sex hotels and in some cases sex posters advertising sex shops and theaters in more urban areas. not to mention the countless dudes on trains openly reading dirty magazines and manga n front of everyone. If that isnt your case, you are living in a bubble. It has nothing to do with how you raise them unless you make them wear blindfolds.

Pestronica is spot on. The demographic of the show has nothing to do with the demographic of GQ.

mrskit -- I find it "disturbing" that you would comment about a show that you obviously know nothing about/have never watched. As a result, I think it is you who needs to "grow up". If you watch Glee, as I do every chance I get, because even the re-runs are 100 times better than anything on J-TV, you'd know that it is not a "drama about cheerleading", but actually a brilliantly conceived and well-written and acted comedy about a high-school glee club (Hence the name), and cheeleading has only a minor place in it -- mainly in the form of the coach, who, by the way just won the Emmy for best supprting actress. The weaving of singing/dancing into the storylines is what keeps people coming back every week, along with the witty writing -- not fascination with high school cheerleaders. And that is why folks as diverse as Olivia Newton-John, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and now Brittany Spears, to name just four, have agreed to have their songs featured on the show and/or appear on it. Also, if you had watched it, you'd know that anyone who thinks the actors are really minors, is clueless, and that this whole "pedophilia" argument is pure attention-grabbing nonsense by the right-wingers.

"folks as diverse as Olivia Newton John, Madonna, Lady Gaga and now Brittany Spears"- I dont think diverse is quite the word I would use to describe Pop Divas. The shows wit and talent, as with most, lay with the writers. As American Idol has sadly shown us, just about anyone can sing and as Dancing with the Stars has shown us, dance. It is a funny show but lets not over do it.

Yeah, America is still quite prudish. Hell, Go-Onger (the children's Power Ranger show in Japan) had Oikawa Nao, the ex-porn star, play the bad girl "Kegareshia". Her outfit allowed for ample cleavege to be shown for the parents to enjoy, too.

My kid fetches the mail and now asks me about the spam/junk flyers with local Moms who do sensual massages (sex) that provides their age, face, time and price. Most people in Japan get sex stuff right in their mailbox unless... uhm you live on a US base and have no idea what really goes on Japan. Sex marketing is everywhere. T & A is in every newspaper. Private homes in the countryside seem to be spared and mansions with heavy security. I too think this GQ is for guys and Pestronica is correct. Yep some dudes do live in a bubble. Tell your kids what meloveulongtime actually means ; ) That said, I have a good feeling you live on a base or right next to one. Please do not insult my Daddy duties. Cheers.

Well, another non-story. I don't know any kids reading GQ, but I guess since this is such an issue they'll see it now. These parental activists are the minority and if advertisers would simply ignore them, they would go away. (Plus, sex sells and this story was such a plant - hell I might try to stomach an episode now.)

BTW, hilarious posts by all.

" what a joke! Why are some people such prudes when it conmes to the naked body???? So silly! "

I don´t know or care about the show, but according to the article, this is a program for 8-year olds. That would be the issue, and not naked bodies per se.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

my2sense...just messin' with ya mate. I am sure you are a good father. WilliB...yeah the program is for 8 year olds but GQ is for grown men....how many 8 year olds read GQ???? Yeah these parental activists are like any other activist group....few people with big mouths....wish they would all just go away and get a life!

KaptainKichigai -- thanks for the laugh. The fact that you would classify Olivia Newton-John and Lady Gaga both as "Pop Divas" and say their styles are not "diverse" indicates about how much you know about music. And as regards your "but lets not over do it." comment, please reference even one regular show on J-TV that can hold a candle to it? I won't hold my breath.

I am so insulted by this anti Christian, anti god fearing article! May you all repent and see the light! Repent you horny sinners! Repent!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The primary problem I see is the power play of the clothed man posing with nearly naked girls. Surely "gentleman" includes ones not of the straight persuasion ...

Surely "gentleman" includes ones not of the straight persuasion ...

That's why there are "other" rag-mags, for people who like . . .

nice placement of the hands, cory. i like your work

herefornow

i am sorry if i didnt take your opinion seriously, obviously the show is very important to you

Glee is a very entertainiung show, I agree, and extremely mature in the topics it covers. The S1 episode which introduced the characters with Down's Syndrome, was ... well, a joy to watch, and really rather moving.

This is GQ we're talking about, not Teens Today or whatever rags are aimed at kids in the States.

My daughter loves Glee. She is 6. I love watchig it with her. It's fun. I am not remotely worried about all this because my daughter doesn't read GQ magazine, and quite honestly, if Mrs Emily Martin is allowing her 14 year old daughter to read GQ magazine where she can see these pictures, I would be more concerned about that!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Emily Martin: "I don’t get what they hope to gain by putting themselves out there like that.”

$Money$

Next question?

herefornow-what planet are you on? Pop Divas are exactly what they are. They are categorized as Pop, they are all vocalists and the demographic of their music during their popularity has been teenage girls. Pick up an Entertainment magazine and do some reading before you start trying to categorize their mindless bubblegum nonsense as diverse or even music. just like Glee is hardly a show worth taking seriously, so is the music they imitate. You must be a teenage girl.

damn, GQ sold out !!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

never heard of the show so dont care............next!

I watch glee with my mother and my children, they all love it, and I have a gay brother, I think that glee allows children to feel more comfotable with themselfs, and honestly, seriously, its insane to go crazy, besides, no one shows thier kids that crap. There over exadurating needlessly. (I personally thought they looked very sexy and cute in these picture) still not showing that to my son.

Hmm. So how are you parents of 8-year-olds dealing with the explanations about why being pregnant in high school is a problem?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lea Michele is one fine-looking woman.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Damn Gleetards!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If anything, I think they were overdressed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Main problem here are bored parents, who find their life empty so decide to complain.

< “I don’t get what they hope to gain by putting themselves out there like that.”

you complain about any issue that might just make your life that much more interesting.
