Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture is an enjoyable day trip from Tokyo

If you are looking for an enjoyable day trip from Tokyo, Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture is one place worth a visit. Just 70 minutes from Shinagawa Station, Miura Peninsula features rural landscape and a beautiful shoreline.

*As Kanagawa Prefecture is now under the state of emergency control for CORVID-19, please visit the Miura Peninsula when the emergency control is over.

Misakiguchi Station is the last stop on the Keikyu Line, which is an entrance to Miura City. When you get off the train, you won't have to go far to be find farm fields, natural woods and the sea. You can enjoy cycling, walking though Koajiro Forest, or try some marine sports. BBQ and camping facilities are also available. Shopping at the Urari vegetable and fish market is a delight, too.

Since buses are the only public transportation for getting around Miura, it might be easier to rent a bicycle or a car at the station. Cycling routes provide a good view of farming fields and Mount Fuji.

Kawazu Sakura (Cherry blossoms)

Between Miura Kaigan and Misakiguchi stations, there is Kawazu Sakura road, lined by about 1,000 cherry trees. They are usually in full bloom from mid-February to early March. Kawazu Sakura bloom earlier than Somei Yoshino and their color is pinker.  The contrast with yellow rape blossoms is beautiful.

Koajiro Forest

Koajiro Forest is said to be the only natural environment in Kanto where you can find an entire river basin connecting the forest to swamps/mud flats and the sea. Starting with the red-clawed crab living in the forest, many living organisms make up a diverse ecosystem.

Maybe in 2023, when we might have achieved some kind of normality.

Lovely pics, though.
