ANA to increase international free baggage allowance

ANA is to increase the free baggage allowance for passengers traveling in economy class on international flights.

With tickets issued on Jan 8, passengers will be able to check in two pieces of free baggage as opposed to the one piece under the current rules. The free allowance for weight and size will remain unchanged, as will the free baggage allowance rule for first and business class passengers.

With the expansion of ANA’s international network and increasing customers to/via Japan, ANA is increasing its economy class free baggage allowance to enhance customer benefit and strengthen the competitiveness on international routes.

ANA is also introducing new excess baggage charges mainly paid by Japanese yen. Details are available at the ANA website.

In June 2013, ANA changed the baggage policy from two free carry-on bags to one. However, in the wake of an influx of requests for an amendment to the rule, as well as a growing number of foreign passengers who carry large amounts of luggage, the company decided to once again return to the two-bag policy.

I flew JAL in Sept. JUST because they allowed 2 bags.

Excellent. Now would you please talk to your Star Alliance partner, United Airlines? UA just charged me $200 extra for being 14 pounds over the 50 pound limit for one bag. I could have checked in two bags at 50 pounds each for just $100 extra. UA needs to allow two bags in economy, but they won't because they don't seem to care. I have over 200k flying miles with UA too.
