Why don’t they just admit they’re doing it to play to the inbound boom? Airfares AND the weak yen are doing a lot to dampen this “demand they want to spark.”

We recently had a holiday in Japan, our fifth in twenty years and in that time prices have hardly changed, except airfares. This time I planned on spending £2000 pounds ( 400000Yen) excluding flights, accommodation and a Jr West rail pass. We returned home with £850 (170000Yen).

The airfares are now ridiculously high. I don't know what makes the Japan route expensive, but airfares from Europe to other places like Mainland China, Hong Kong and Southeat Asia are so much cheaper.
I used to travel with ANA until they decided they were Japan's first airline and saw fit to raise their prices. These past few years, my travels have been more with JAL who used to think they were Japan's best until they ran into financial trouble,

Their service isn't worth the surcharge their fares ask for. When you need to ask for a slice of lemon with your G & T, shop elsewhere.

Meanwhile, you need 176 yen to buy a euro and 1200 yen to buy a coffee.

ANA si one of the most expensive companies in the world. Good luck to them, but if they keep those callous overpriced tickets, nobody is going to choose them over other companies that offers 50% less or even more ticket price.
