Nijo Castle in Kyoto is holding a light-up festival during the cooler evenings of summer 2020.
The world heritage site will hold the "Nijo Castle x Naked Summer Special Light-up 2020" beginning on Saturday Aug 8 and lasting until Sunday Aug 30.
It is the opportune time to enjoy the dramatic architecture of one of Japan’s last feudal era castles in the cooler summer evenings. The castle normally closes its doors earlier in the day to visitors, but during this special period, guests will be able to walk the grounds late into the night.
The festival is being produced in collaboration with the creative company, Naked Co and will feature a number of light installations across the castle grounds to enhance the structure, architecture and aesthetics of the venue.
As part of anti-virus measures, staff will be limiting entry to guests who have pre-booked tickets. For those who can’t get their hands on a ticket, or feel safer staying at home, but would still like to enjoy the lit-up scenes, there is an option to purchase VR glasses and entry to the event via their online platform.
