Economy is developed by alternative and various business activities to benefit both Hawaii and Japan in these situations.

I really don't see why there would be a decline in vacationers to Hawaii in the next few years. Maybe for now, because of the devestation Japan has encountered, i can see, but for the next couple of years? With the yen hitting all time lows, it should be cheaper for Japanese to go to Hawaii now.

Some might cancel, but then again this might be the perfect time for a spur of the moment vacation to Hawaii. I'll bet a lot of you in Japan would rather be lounging by a pool with a tropical drink in your hand right now.

you are right, paulinusa ... Hawaii is a good place for vacationers and businesspersons. It has a larger community of Japanese expatriates there.

The shoe fits on the other foot when I recall Japanese cancelled vacation plans to the U.S. during 9/11 out of guilt ... at least among my Japanese friends then.

I am in Hawaii. I am heartbroken at the sadness and loss in Japan. Japan and Hawaii are connected in many ways. Native Hawaiian island culture and spirituality are very much like the old ways in Japan culture. Hawaii is not just a place for fun and shopping.. it is a sacred place of peace and healing. We have only Aloha for Japan. We share your pain and offer our love not just now but for life. Aloha.

Can the ALOHA spirit also be translated to NIHAO? I am quite sure the people over in China now have $$$ to burn, I understand all the sacred healing stuff for Hawaii but I guess their is an old saying, Don't put all your eggs in one Japanese basket right? Now Hawaii sounds like a real nice place to escape from our earthquakes, nuclear reactors in Fukushima etc..ALOHA!

ALOHA spirit fits Japanese people; you may check its meaning in wikipedia ... not completely NIHAO in China.
