Hilton Tokyo offers Thanksgiving, Christmas dining

The Hilton Tokyo is offering sumptuous dining for Thanksgiving and Christmas in its Checkers and the Marble Lounge restaurants.

At the lobby-level Marble Lounge, the special brunch buffet on Nov 23 features over 60 dishes, including traditional roast turkey with cranberry sauce and giblet gravy, sugar-glazed ham with apple sauce, and a selection of American-style pies, plus a magic show and clown performance to add to the festivities (5,950 yen per adult/3,200 yen for kids). Upstairs at casual brasserie Checkers, the usual Mediterranean-style dinner buffet on Nov 25 comes with Thanksgiving additions like turkey with stuffing, roast beef topped with gravy and horseradish cream, and traditional desserts including pecan pie, apple pie and brownies (6,800 yen/4,500 yen).

To celebrate the festive season, the hotel will present an array of exciting seasonal treats and events. The Marble Lounge will offer the ever-popular Christmas Brunch Buffet from Dec 23-25 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The menu selection ranges from traditional breakfast items to special Christmas dishes, including Honey coated roasted ham, Roasted turkey with stuffing, Oysters on crushed ice and bûche de Noël. The lounge will be brightly illuminated by a 6-meter Christmas tree and a clown will entertain kids of all ages, helping to set that special festive yuletide mood. Price is 5,950 yen for adults and 3,200 yen for kids.

Le Pergolèse French Dining, directed by acclaimed MOF chef Stéphane Gaborieau, will offer exquisite 4-course and 6-course Christmas dinner menus from Dec 23 to 25 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Indulge yourself and a loved one with Grilled Japanese beef fillet, black truffle cream potato and Madiera sauce and Roasted Breton turbot with cannelloni, Jerusalem artichoke puree and purple artichoke, while enjoying superb wines specially selected by Master of Wine, Dr Ron Georgiou. Price is 19,500 yen per person for 4-course dinner and 24,000 yen for 6-course dinner.

The Hilton is also selling a range of takeaway items. The Takeaway Christmas dinner includes traditional roast turkey with stuffing, 4 kinds of hors d’oeuvre, bûche de Noël and a variety of ginger breads, priced at 20,000 yen for 2 or 38,000 yen for 4 people.

The Hilton is also selling a range of takeaway items. The Takeaway Christmas dinner includes traditional roast turkey with stuffing, 4 kinds of hors d’oeuvre, bûche de Noël and a variety of ginger breads, priced at 20,000 yen for 2 or 38,000 yen for 4 people.

And for that price, delivery by helicopter to your front door..

That photo tells me there will be no Christmas cake; only クリスマスケーキ.

There is never Christmas cake in Japan, unless you make it yourself or bribe someone to send one from home. Same with mince pies, though recently Mr Kipling has been making an appearance at the import shops for people whose desperation is great enough to loosen the purse strings.

The 'sumptuous dining for Christmas' is always a disappointment. Maybe it's the time spent in the kitchen starting weeks ahead that is what makes Christmas dinner really special.
