Inn in Ishikawa Prefecture opens its doors to travelers stranded in Japan due to COVID-19

During the month of April, Kaname Inn Tatemachi in Kanazawa is offering free accommodations to international tourists who are unable to return to their home countries through their crowdfunding project, “Room for Rescue.”

Company president and food blogger Hiroshi Hosokawa recalls his first experience with an acquaintance in just such a situation. “Someone had contacted me with an urgent message asking for help to house a stranded Dutch friend.”

This is how the idea of “Room for Rescue” started. At first, it was friends and friends of friends who needed help. It has now already grown to so many more from all over the world seeking help to find a place to stay. Hosokawa said his hope is to offer a place where stranded travelers can feel safe, and he is happy to share Kanazawa with them, as with all their guests.

Those in need of a room due to international flight cancellations in Japan are encouraged to reach out to Kaname Inn via email at r4r@kaname-japan.com. The offer is currently available until April 30.

Anyone with a Japanese email can contribute to the crowd funder to help support the program https://camp-fire.jp/projects/view/248886

This is great!

I was very impressed when I had an interview with the president Hosokawa-san yesterday- it is a great sustainable innovation approach which is helping to counterbalance the discrimination international visitors and residents may encounter now in Japan due to COVID19

Our interview is now up on my YT channel https://youtu.be/Xc9SoEibKOE

Good on them.

I read that there are about 100,000 Chinese university students in North America who want to go home (the schools are closed), but the Chinese government won't allow them to do so at this time. I hope they are doing well.

@Rachel Quinn

Do you know if there is any way we can donate without having a Japanese email?

What is a Japanese email?

Mark, Kag, thank you both for your concern. A lot of those early photos are from early March, long before the current rise in cases. While the number of cases in Japan remains small, governors are taking action, so even in prefectures that are far from experiencing a state of emergency, like here in Ishikawa where Kaname Inn is located, government officials are just this week asking citizens to practice social distancing. Room for Rescue guests are asked to keep their contacts over phone or email, and as an extra precaution, everyone reports their temperature each day, with an English-language emergency hotline a phone call away.

I know with the world as it is now, it can be scary and uncertain, but we can't let fear keep us from helping each other, and if anything, that's when we need each other the most. #weareallinthistogether

Good of them to do that, hope they implement strict controls or it'll just become another cluster.

Great idea and congrats to the Hotel, but why are they standing so close together with no masks or gloves on. Social distancing is a must!
