Join popular YouTuber 'ONLY in JAPAN' on special train journey to Tohoku on April 3

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) has taken an active role in the recovery of the Tohoku region after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. In view of the 10th anniversary of the event, JR East will be joining in a special Tohoku destination campaign, expected to roll out in April. JR East will continue to support the recovery of this beautiful region, by inviting international residents to come experience it for themselves.

The campaign will open with an exclusive shinkansen journey on a special “Tohoku DC Fukkou” group train from Tokyo Station to Shin Aomori Station on April 3.  John Daub — creator and producer of the longstanding "ONLY in JAPAN" series on YouTube — will be onboard, livestreaming the event so train-lovers around the world can share the experience virtually. Viewers can tune in on the day at: https://www.youtube.com/c/ONLYinJAPANGO

To encourage expats to see for themselves how Tohoku has recovered in the last 10 years, JR East will also be offering 100 international residents of Japan the chance to join a special fam trip and share their experiences via social media.

Any international resident of Japan can apply, and those selected will get a spot on the special train journey, along with a 5-day JR EAST Pass (Tohoku area) and a Welcome Suica, all for a 15,000 yen participation fee. To apply and check the terms and conditions for participation, please visit the WAmazing website.

The JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) allows holders five days of consecutive travel on JR lines in the Tohoku area, including the Tohoku Shinkansen and certain special trains such as the Resort Shirakami, SL Ginga and Toreiyu Tsubasa.

Applications for the opening ride and promotion for international residents started on February 19.
