Some of the things they claim are kitschy are being replaced by things that sound just as kitschy. When I go to Hawaii I indulge in two activities, the beach and the bar (sometimes the beach bar).

Please get rid of those horrible mu-mu dresses that the Mormons foisted on the Hawaiins - most definately NOT native Hawaiian to cover yourself with a huge tarp.

Actually it was the Protestant missionaries, not the Mormons (who arrived quite a bit later) who were allegedly responsible for the mu'umu'u... and they seem to be going out of fashion pretty much on their own.
This is all good though, now if we could just see more live Hawaiian music in Waikiki, there are so few venues left for live performances!

While you're at it, why don't you get rid of that manmade beach that all the tourists flock to?

One of the many things I like about Hawaii is its coffee ... Kona Coffee. And now I can get a cup of "Kona Blend" coffee at the new Honolulu Coffee Shop in the new Diver City mall at Odaiba, here in Tokyo. It's as close to the delicious Kona Coffee that can be drunk in Hawaii.
As for drinking booze in Hawaii ... it seems to be part of island culture anywhere ... where drinking tends to be a national pastime. But when I go to Hawaii, it's the guava juice and other tropical juices that I dig most. Makes me thirsty just to think about it ...

Aloha from Waikiki! I live and work in Waikiki. It has changed a lot. Waikiki will never be Hawaiian again. It's all about the Money!!!! Yes fake beaches and beach boys more worried about making money then teaching the gift of surfing. Just come down too the beach some time and listen to these growing men fight about Money. It's very sad if you think about it. Everyone is making Money from the beach to the mountains. And it's only going to get worse. Look at the Moana hotel they are get ready to build another tower 27stores high to replace a 6floor one they have now. Oh but wait there trying to say that we need more Hawaiian culture so they have this moon event. Give me a break. It's owned by Kyo hotels of Japan. It's ok were in the USA money in everything. Aloha was sold a long time ago. As for Disney they are putting there money were there mouth is. Hiring local people teaching the Hawaiian culture giving back to it's people. Great Job.
