countries longing for the return of Chinese tourists will likely face more of a wait.

I hope it's a permanent wait. Their tourists were a menace before. Rude, obnoxious. No thank you.

As the Chinese vaccine isn't recognized by Japan, those entering will need PCR tests within 72 hours of departure. This will keep many away.

Keep them out for at least a year more.

Welcome back!

No worries.

China had a successful zero covid strategy so I hope the visitors are safe here because of the high infection rates in Japan.

Open the door and let em in. They bring lots of money and they are mostly nice people, same could be said about the Japanese

Thousands of daily unnecessary deaths because of a failure to prepare for the inevitable end of the policy prove otherwise, that the spreading has originated yet another variant that have to be characterized is even further proof of that.

Yes, Australia and New Zealand especially had skyrocketing rates after they eased restrictions, which culminated in more deaths than when they were in lockdown.

Many months after they eased restrictions, because the actual reason was the introduction of Omicron.

The important part is that China had more than one extra year to prepare and avoid having any extra death, but instead it did nothing but pretend the usnsustainable zero covid policy could be continued indefinitely, this obviously was not the case and now thousands of deaths that could have been prevented happen every single day.

That is not success, it is failure.

As statistics show, the surge in infections in Australia and New Zealand occurred immediately after restrictions eased.

New Zealand and Australia had two years to prepare, yet as sources published here show those countries had the highest rates in infections and deaths just this past summer. Global health experts and even the WHO agency acknowledged this.

As statistics show, the surge in infections in Australia and New Zealand occurred immediately after restrictions eased.

No such thing, the increase came several months after the restrictions ended, and at a similar time compared with the increased present in China, because both were caused by the introduction of the Omicron strain.

New Zealand and Australia had two years to prepare, yet as sources published here show those countries had the highest rates in infections and deaths just this past summer.

Infection, not deaths. And if you are calling them a failure that means you are admitting China is an even greater failure shince it had one extra year to prepare and instead it did nothing. Australia and New Zealand are not the examples of the best preparation taken by a country, but both had much better immunization programs than China.

Global health experts and even the WHO agency acknowledged this.

Good you recognize now the importance of the WHO global authority, which is the one that said the zero covid policy was unsustainable and would risk the health and lives of millions of Chinese cicitzens, something that is now being proved completely right.

Ni country has been this bad:

there is likely to be over one million cases a day in China and over 5,000 deaths a day. This is in stark contrast to the official data which is reporting 1,800 cases and only 7 official deaths over the past week.
