It makes sense for LCCs but now even the main carriers are sliding down into the trap, even on basic economy now you barely get anything but a seat. For a time United even stopped serving alcohol on international flights!
The worst parts about these deep discount fares is that they either don't award mileage or barely give you any, and some companies have policies that you have to book the cheapest seat available on an airline.

Absolutely seriously, I'd be happy to be injected with an anaesthetic, put in a box and revived on arrival.
In fact, I'd pay extra....

Wow! A whole 2000 people. Corporate propaganda.
Not coincidence IMO.

The US airline industry was deregulated in 1979. Service levels have been dropping ever since. Give me a protected oligopoly airline, like JAL, or a state-owned and controlled airline like Singapore any day.

Most of the people I know are willing to pay extra for a little more legroom. On international flights, many people intentionally fly with non-US carriers.

It is NOT that people prefer cheap seats, it's only all they can afford.

I will avoid airlines that try to pack too many seats into each row, even if it means paying a bit more.
