Ritz-Carlton Tokyo hosts theme parties

The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, has started a program to create memorable and personalized themed events for children. “A themed party will give a child the opportunity to really stretch his or her imagination and revel in atmosphere that was specially created for them,” said Ricco DeBlank, the hotel’s general manager. “What child wouldn’t want to be a princess or a pirate for the day, and share that special occasion in the company of their family and their favorite friends.”

Each event is tailored to meet the wishes of the child, and their parents. No request is too small, with themes ranging from a fashion show complete with tiny couture, to a treasure hunt, to a mini-Olympics training camp. Three to five weeks for planning is recommended. Additional themes available. For further information, contact the hotel at 03-6434-8710.

I have got to wonder about the prices of these events. JT: A little more investigation please on the prices and if possible a comparison to the McD parties given for the kids.

This sounds like a scheme for the Ritz-Carlton to extract yen from the parents.

well a bottle of baileys ordered on room service at Ritz Carlton Osaka costs 20,000 yen to give you a starter.

Chances are, if you are concerned with the price, you won't be a customer.

chances are if I had the money I would go else where for a more memorable event

Ultradude, no problem with spending the cash, but not asking about a price before purchase shows more money than brains. More power to you.

Years ago in the States I worked for an Investment Bank. The employees of this bank received a 15% discount on goods at a particular store. Anyhow, one of Senior Partners was unaware of the discount and bought something which would have produced a discount of USD 12.50. The dude went bonkers. Now this guy made about USD 5~7m (1986 dollars) per year. Are you saying that because he was concerned about the discount he should not be shopping there? Or that he should not have asked about the price? Jeez...

There are plenty of very wealthy people who are very concerned about the prices they pay. Just as there are people who spend like it grows on trees. People who want to slam another because they ask about the prices usually have some type of preconceived notion about "how things are supposed to be for the upper crust." Usually these people have absolutely no clue about the width and variety of the world. Please stay in your own private world and let the rest of use ask about the prices. Cheers.

The other poster mentioned JPY 20k for a bottle of room service Baileys. What a rip-off.

Did I "slam" you? My point (which you missed) is that if you would even consider having a party for your crumb snatcher at a 5-star hotel chain like the "Ritz", you have serious liquidity and a different idea of "value-for-money" than most folks here on JT. I have kids and I've stayed at a few of the Ritz properties over the years but it would never cross my mind to arrange a birthday party for them at a hotel, let alone the Ritz.

This is a symbol of the disease called capitalism. Coming at a time when people are becoming unemployed left, right and centre, when daily suicides by people jumping in front of trains is becoming the norm in this city, this hotel comes up with a scheme which is aimed at the super rich elite of Japan, and is like a one finger sign directed at the growing numbers of homeless people in Ueno Park and along the banks of the Ara river. Its just plain SICK.
