The sakura season of 2021 may be coming to a bittersweet ending, but it’s a never ending cycle of floral fun in Japan as the tulips pick up the crown and begin their reign as the flower champions of the season.

Head on over to Sakura City in Chiba Prefecture for the Sakura Tulip Festa 2021, and prepare to be blown away by the event’s collection of more than 300,000 tulips in 40 different varieties.

This event marks a fabulous return for the festival, after the outbreak of COVID-19 last year led to its cancellation, with officials even going as far as removing the heads of the tulips in order to deter visitors in 2020.

The event is held at Sakura city’s Sakura Furusato Square, and sees more than 300,000 individual tulips in full bloom set against the backdrop of a Dutch windmill. The event includes lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy such as tulip bulb digging, sightseeing boat rides along Lake Inba-Numa, Dutch street organ performances, windmill celebrations and sales of fresh local vegetables and souvenirs of the event and the surrounding area.

Instagram Photo Contest

Take part in the Sakura Tulip Festa ‘spring photo contest’ during the event for a chance to have your photos featured on the Sakura Tourism Instagram account.

To take part, make sure to follow the Sakura City Tourism Association’s Instagram account, and tag your photos with the hashtag #春ふぉと佐倉2021. Photos taken and posted until May 10 are eligible for the contest.

Local and limited goods sales – Sakura Hana Shop

On top of that, the festival will also see the sales of limited edition tulip sable cookies, and Miffy sable cookies and goods.

If I didn't know any better, this picture could pass for that of the famous Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan, USA.
