Sheraton Hotel opens in Kagoshima

Marriott has expanded its portfolio of hotels in Japan with the opening of a Sheraton in Kagoshima, the brand’s 150th property in Asia-Pacific and the first Sheraton in Japan.

Situated on a picturesque bay with a backdrop of Mount Sakurajima, the Sheraton Kagoshima is located on Kyushu island, approximately 40 kilometres from Kagoshima Airport and a minute walk from the Takenohashi tram station which connects guests to Kagoshima Chuo Station.

The hotel is also just a ten-minute drive from nearby attractions such as Shiroyama Park, where guests can see a spectacular birds-eye view of the city, Kagoshima Bay and Mount Sakurajima - an active stratovolcano.

“The opening of Sheraton Kagoshima marks another exciting milestone in the Sheraton journey as our first property in Japan to embody the brand’s global design transformation, just in time for the summer travel season and beyond,” said Amanda Nichols, Global Brand Leader, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. “From the beaches and ancient forests to the great volcanoes, Kagoshima is a beautifully scenic seaside city primed for exploration and connection for all.”

At the heart of the Sheraton Kagoshima is the lobby which welcomes guests with double-height ceiling, greenery-covered walls and warm natural lighting. Community Tables, purpose-built workspaces that anchor the hotel’s lobby and allow guests to work, eat and drink, feature built-in lighting, outlets and charging stations.

Facilities at the hotel include a choice of F&B outlets, a Sheraton Club available 24/7, 6,565 sqm of event and meeting space, a fitness centre, spa and an onsen featuring natural volcanic hot spring pools and foot baths.

All 228 guest rooms and suites feature light wood tones with views overlooking Sakurajima and Kagoshima city. The Club rooms and suites are located on the upper floors and include access to the Sheraton Club lounge.

“Whether guests are visiting for leisure or business, we look forward to welcoming guests at Sheraton Kagoshima, which captures the warm spirit and character of our city with its new design, inviting spaces, and warm Japanese hospitality,” said Takeki Toda, General Manager, Sheraton Kagoshima.

Im not sure how I understand how this is the first Sheraton in Japan. There is a couple in Tokyo, and at least one in Yokohama.

Yokohama is an "& Towers", and Hiroshima and Tokyo Disney Sea are Grande labels, but under the Sheraton brand.

But yeah, kind of misleading...
