Singapore Airlines revamps Premium Economy Class

Singapore Airlines is revamping the Premium Economy Class inflight experience with an improved and expanded selection of food and beverage options, as well as a new amenity kit which will be available on flights from March 31.

As part of the revamp, Premium Economy Class customers will be offered a glass of Charles de Cazanove Brut Tradition NV Champagne shortly after take-off.

They will also be able to peruse a hard copy menu card that lists the wide variety of meal, snack and beverage options that are available on their flight.

On flights that are at least seven hours long, an all-new Out of the Woods amenity kit, designed exclusively for Premium Economy Class customers, will also be available on request.

The changes mark the first comprehensive revamp of SIA’s Premium Economy Class inflight experience since the cabin class was introduced in 2015.

“Since its introduction in 2015, Premium Economy Class has become popular with our customers. They appreciate the added amenities, heightened comfort, and the extra personal space it offers, all at an excellent value,” said Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines. “At Singapore Airlines, though, our philosophy is to never stand still. We regularly gather customer feedback and conduct market research, learn more about the evolving value drivers for travellers, and find innovative ways to continue delivering a personalised and world-class in-flight experience. Based on these insights, we have undertaken this comprehensive revamp of our Premium Economy Class inflight offerings, which we believe will delight our customers. The result reflects Singapore Airlines’ dedication to enhancing the Premium Economy Class experience to a class of its own.”

SIA has developed over 200 new appetizers, main courses and desserts as part of the revamp.

Premium Economy Class meals will consist of a seasonal appetizer, main course, bread and dessert, as well as cheese and crackers, all served on a full-sized tray.

Upgraded bread options will include croissants for breakfast or garlic bread rolls for lunch, dinner and supper.

New appetisers include garlic roasted prawns with smoked aioli and Patatas Bravas (Spanish fried potatoes), broccoli salad with hot smoked salmon, and seasonal variations of Japanese cold noodles with soba sauce.

Customers will be able to choose from two premium main course options, either international or Asian cuisine, on every flight.

Highlights of the main courses include new dishes such as beef bourguignon served with bacon, mushrooms, vegetables, and potato gratin, bak chor mee (minced pork noodles), and Thai-style crab curry served with a combination of jasmine rice and brown rice, and seasonal vegetables with egg.

Customers can also choose from an expanded Book the Cook menu, which features up to 20 dishes available on rotation, for pre-order at least 24 hours before departure.

Popular choices include Singapore-style seafood hor fun and chicken biryani, as well as new additions like slow braised lamb ragout, salmon teriyaki, and plant-based wellness dishes such as mushroom eggplant meatballs.

Desserts include chocolate feuilletine cake, mascarpone cream cake, as well as apple crumble cheesecake.

Meals are accompanied by a small bar of chocolate, as well as upgraded cheese and crackers.

Complementing the meals are a selection of wines and Champagne, curated by SIA’s panel of wine experts exclusively for the Premium Economy Class cabin.

In addition to the Charles de Cazanove Brut Tradition NV Champagne, customers can choose between the 2023 Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc and the 2022 St Hallett Faith Shiraz.

An extensive selection of spirits including whisky, gin, vodka, signature cocktails like the Singapore Sling, and a variety of beers, will also be available.

Peppermint and Chamomile teas, as well as hot chocolate from Cadbury, have been added to the non-alcoholic beverage selection, complementing the existing range of options including soft drinks, fruit juices, coffee and teas.

Between meals, customers can request for new snack options such as almonds and cashews, on top of the existing variety of snacks such as potato chips, assorted buns, sandwiches, muffins and flavored popcorn.

Brand New Premium Economy Class Inflight Amenity Kit

SIA partnered with Out of the Woods, an US-based manufacturer of eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle products, for the new Premium Economy Class amenity kit.

The pouch is made from eco-friendly Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified kraft paper fabric, and includes eyeshades and slippers made from recycled PET material.

The kit also incorporates a lip balm packaged in biodegradable material.

Toiletries such as dental kits and moisturizers, will only be available in the lavatory.

Maybe for the airlines you fly with, let me guess Southwest or United?

Singapore Airlines is head and shoulders above either of those airlines, and I would say any American based airline as well!

Wrong. There's nothing wrong with SQ vanilla cattle class.

He isn't wrong. Premium economy literally provides a service which is comparable to economy class (= same meals, and only 1 or 2 inches more of personal space) for a much higher price. I fly business when I can afford it or economy when I cannot. Would never dream of wasting money on PE. Unless PE provides lie-flat seats, it's a con job.

Compared to Singapore Airlines, Southwest and Delta are like riding a beat up bus on a dirt road in a third world country.

They have been living on their past image and reputation far too long.

we flew with them from Tokyo over Singapore to Frankfurt in business class and it was a completely bad experience. From the wrong seating, over inedible food and cheap and too limited wine selection to dated lounges in Singapore. The flight to Frankfurt was no better but this time a rude cabin crew completed the picture. I only fly Qatar airways or emirates. SQ is gone for me

I did and I was of the same idea when I wrote this article. PE's hard product improvement over economy is laughable and a waste of money. It's no wonder that PE and F are slowly dying. Polarization of income means that high-income people tend to fly J, middle income fly Y and low income fly LLCs. F adds very little to the J experience, especially if one's objective is to sleep on the plane. What is PE supposed to offer that Y cannot? A broccoli salad? Too little for the extra ask.

Don't do LCC's and never set foot on Southwest Airlines aircraft. United yes, because there was no alternative for the route/fare.

I fly business when I can afford it or economy when I cannot. Would never dream of wasting money on PE.

Yep, I'm with you there. In some cases where I've tried PE (Thai Airways, Lufthansa, Qantas, British Airways) the PE seat with is more restrictive than the vanilla economy. The faux leg rests that don't fully extend aren't at all comfortable. Go the whole 9 yards in business or don't bother.
