Taking the 'lug' out of luggage with JTB’s new bag delivery service

Created by official Tokyo 2020 Olympic sponsors JTB, Panasonic and Yamato Transport, Luggage-Free Travel is a service which aims to take the stress and worry out of a trip to Japan, making sure that tourists’ journey throughout the country is more convenient and enjoyable.

The service aims to help travelers get the most out of their trip to Japan from the minute they arrive by transporting luggage to their onward destination, meaning that they’ll be able to use public transport without the fear of losing anything or struggling to carry baggage while trying to find their way to their destination in Japan.

With the service, luggage is sent to the traveler’s hotel where it will be waiting for them upon arrival. For those who intend to move to another location within the country, Luggage-Free Travel will also take suitcases and packing boxes for souvenirs to the next hotel, or even back to the airport.

The service is quick, simple, safe and easy to use. All that is required is to make an account on the Luggage-Free Travel website and arrange delivery in advance. If you want to check how much the service will cost, the website enables you to get an instant quote for the number of bags you’ll have and where you want to send them to.

From there you can go on to picking the time and date you’ll be giving your luggage over to a Luggage-Free Travel counter, and also when you want it to be delivered to the hotel (or airport). Once everything has been arranged, you’ll be given a QR Code and email receipt. Then, all that is required is present the QR Code to a staff member at the Luggage-Free Travel counter at the airport and they’ll take it from you straight away, leaving you free to begin your holiday, luggage and stress-free.

The service also boasts a secure billing system. You will also receive emails when your luggage is collected and delivered, and can either get in touch with the call centre or use the tracking system that Luggage-Free Travel provides if you have any questions about your order. Additionally, the service offers live chat and insurance, so you can be sure that if anything does go wrong, Luggage-Free Travel will be on hand to help.

You can find out more information on the Luggage-Free Travel website and live chat is also available.

Good idea.

We used something similar last time we flew on Alaska Airlines. For a fee, our bags were picked up on the cruise ship, and then we didn't have to worry about them until we got to our destination airport. They didn't offer a service that would have taken them all the way to our home, but we didn't need that, either.

In London, AirPortr provides a service that collects your bags on the day of a flight or the evening before, and works with American Airlines and EasyJet (and perhaps others). The agent came to the apartment, checked our boarding passes and passports and tagged and sealed the bags. Email updates at each state, and nothing to do but collect them at JFK.

Sounds like an idea that could be useful nearly everywhere!
