The Tokyo metropolitan government on Friday began offering free Wi-Fi service on one of its subway lines.
Government officials said the free Wi-Fi service is being implemented in order to improve the traveling experience for foreign tourists. The service is currently available on the Asakusa Line that goes to both Haneda and Narita airports.
Wi-Fi service will be expanded to the Oedo, Mita and Shinjuku lines in the future. By March 2020, when the number of foreign tourists is expected to peak before the Olympics and Paralympics Games, all of the Toei Lines will have free Wi-Fi. This service is not limited to foreign tourists; anyone can use it.
Tokyo Gov Yoichi Masuzoe told a news conference that he aims to have free Wi-Fi all over the city by 2020, Fuji TV reported.

Not sure whether I'll still be here when the Olympics come, but I hope they don't switch it off when the Olympics are finished.

A long overdue step, partly understandable from a domestic point as mobile connections are very good but I've never understood why there hasn't been WiFi connections on airport trains and buses.
