United Airlines first U.S. carrier in Japan to offer low fare guarantee

United Airlines on Thursday announced the launch of its Low Fare Guarantee program in Japan. United is the first U.S. carrier in Japan to pledge that travel booked through its website is the lowest United fare available online.

With United’s Low Fare Guarantee, simply book your flight at unitedairlines.co.jp, and if you see the same United itinerary on the Internet priced lower elsewhere on the same day, the airline will reissue your ticket, refund the fare difference and give you a certificate for 10% off your next ticket purchase. In addition, there is no booking fee, United said.

@Judderman: There are travel agents as well as online sites that have contracts with United and can offer lower fares. They are supposed to mark the fares up from the rates they buy the fares at but some agencies don't.

"Just go on the 5th January.. will be 1/3 of the price"

But this IS Japan, I can't go anywhere on the 5th of January except to the office, lol.

"who, in their right mind, would consider flying United?"

Someone who can't afford to fly ANA.

The only guarantee that United can give is that you'll travel on an old plane with bad service and surly, ugly, old and fat flight attendants.

That is so true about all US airlines. This promotion by United is a SCAM, plain and simple. To make matters worse still, JAPANESE COMPANIES ARE SO GREEDY (ex. United Japan) and always water down any potential benefits that are realized in the US or other companies.

This ridiculous promotion makes me want to pay more just to punish them for the stupid terms that "namabiru4me" quoted. Airlines are the WORST business in the world.

this won't last long

on the whole this just seems like a stupid waste of time

This will probably get investigated by Japan's Fair Trade Commission and rescinded by next week.

Don't know about you, but I can't trust any guarantee from any airline, let alone United. The only guarantees are 1)you get mucked around before departure, 2) receive surly on-board non-service, and 3) try to locate your baggage on arrival!

certificate? not the same as the US version. CASH BACK. Japanese always copy but change it to water it down.

Terms:

Cannot use a partner, only United

Must submit the claim the same day and without any errors

Your itinerary must be EXACT with your lower fare claim

United must be able to verify

"does not apply to fare differences of less than JPY1,000"

Does not apply to unpublished fares

United is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules.

LOL!! Good luck ever trying to catch them on this. First of all you have to find the lower price within 24 hours. They can lower the price, for the exact same itinerary on the exact same day, days or weeks later and you are SOL. Sure they will allow you to rebook - for 25,000 yen per ticket plus 2500 for having the new ticket issued through an agent
