United Airlines to increase flights to Tokyo

United Airlines will begin service in March 2020 between four of its U.S. hubs and Tokyo's Haneda International Airport, located approximately 15 minutes from downtown Tokyo.

United will begin operating nonstop service between Chicago, Los Angeles, New York/Newark and Washington, D.C. and Haneda, subject to government approval. United currently offers daily nonstop service between San Francisco and Haneda.

With the start of these new routes, United will no longer serve Narita from its Chicago and Washington DC hubs, and will shift these flights from Narita to Haneda.

"Our new service to Haneda gives our customers more choice and connections to more than 65 destinations throughout Asia. With service beginning next spring, we look forward to providing convenient service for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and beyond," said Patrick Quayle, United's vice president of International Network. "United has offered nonstop service between the U.S. and Japan for more than 40 years and we are excited to expand our Japan network at Tokyo's Haneda Airport and continue to be the largest U.S. carrier to Japan."

Tickets for United's new Haneda flights have been available for purchase since Aug 17.

Hope they also increase the quality of their in flight meals! Worst of any airline.

That nauseating breakfast omelette they give you towards the end of a long-haul flight is enough to make anyone heave. Even thinking about it is making me queasy.

People complaining about the meals, jeez, what about lack of legroom and elbow room in economy?

I switched to ANA and have been much happier with the food and service. All the Asian airlines are much better than any from America. Unfortunately, I still have to fly to Houston on United, but at least it's a short flight.

Likewise - switched to ANA 7-8 years ago. Had one Transcontinental flight with United last year that only made me more pleased with my choice, Hopefully...and it is very hopeful with Delta and United having more flights into Haneda it may make ANA a little more competitive price wise. Love them, but their Biz class is expensive.
