The United mileage program used to be quite good and I was able to get at least one free flight from Japan to Europe each year. But after all the "program improvements" over the past few years it's difficult for me even to qualify for the silver level. Still, the upside is that there's no longer any need for me to fly United at all, with their "Economy Minus" seats and terrible "food".

This will lose me about 5000 miles for a round trip between Narita and San Francisco. Thanks a lot United

As usual, those with more money to spend will benefit. Those who value every penny they spend and to whom an upgrade is like a day of luxury will now miss out.

UA has made many changes in the Mileage Plus.
First, UA raised the mileage from 65,000 to 75,000 for free RT US/Orient economy ticket this year.
The availability for economy class is getting less and less, and it is getting harder to find the available seats.
UA has been offering less and less mileage for promotional flights.
UA is now charging too much for excess luggage that really sucks.
I still have two free RT tickets I can redeem. Without this incentives, I may just find the cheapest flights without mileage. Good bye UA, I can do better without YOU.
