United voted 'Best North American Airline' in Asia

For the eighth consecutive year, frequent travelers in the Asia-Pacific region have voted United Airlines the "Best North American Airline" in Business Traveler Asia-Pacific’s Travel Awards 2008.

“It is a tremendous honor for United to be recognized over so many years as the best among our peers by such a prominent industry publication and their travel-savvy readers,” says Mark Schwab, vice president, Pacific, United Airlines. “The Asia-Pacific region has always been an important part of United’s global strategy and we will continue to work hard to bring quality products and services to customers in this region. Many of our customers are already enjoying our new international premium travel experience, including lie-flat United Business seats that are leaving them energized and ready for whatever awaits them at their destination.”

Now in its 17th year, the Business Traveler Asia-Pacific Travel Awards is one of the Asia-Pacific region’s most prestigious accolades for top industry players. Each year, the magazine polls frequent travelers from across the region to hear their opinions on airlines and travel industry services.

The 2008 results are verified and compiled by independent global market research company, Synovate. United’s all-new First Class Suite and Business Class cabins give the airline the distinction of being the first U.S. carrier to offer 180-degree fully-flat beds. The new seats are currently available to United customers in the Asia-Pacific region on nonstop services between Hong Kong and San Francisco and Hong Kong and Singapore. All of United’s international flights will be fitted with the new cabin configuration.

I asked a NorthWorst flight attendant "What's the best thing about this job?" She replied "Days off." I then asked "What's the worst thing?" She replied "Talking to passengers."

jean: "I have yet to see seats that fold into 180-degree fully-flat beds."

Me too. It's outrageous, isn't it?

On United I have had to deal with ground staff and a few flight attendants who were vicious and in a couple of cases borderline postal. I report this stuff to United with no response. This aside, I can verify that in business class I have yet to see seats that fold into 180-degree fully-flat beds.

Yeah, where did this come from? Is this some piddly poll conducted by some piddly magazine and then published with great fanfare by the "winner?" Companies do this kind of thing all the time, I guess United is no different. I wonder if the $50 per second bag charge was brought up? United has falled so far since the early 90s that I try to avoid them any more. I don't really care what the stewardesses look like, the bad service starts at the gate and just goes from there....

best and United? like intelligent and GI, just do not go together.

I must give props however to United Japan reservations. They are terrific.

Flew United to San Francisco and watched a female cabin crew member spill a meal on a passenger and say "ooops" by way of an apology, totally can relate to Pivot with the fat and cranky bit. UGLY BEYOND BELIEF seemed to be the prerequisite for employment.....

Northworst stewardesses really are the worst. They don't know how to spell 'service', let alone provide it.

That must mean they don't fly in Asia.

When I took Northworst in the states, I was shocked at the size of the stewardesses. They were over a certain age, which does not hamper their ability for service, but were also fat and therefore blocked anyone from moving past them through the aisles. They were also freaking cranky and had no concept of service. Maybe I should have tipped them, I dunno. People keep trying to claim it works.

The reason why I chose Northworst was because people were telling me how REALLY bad United was...

This survey must have been truly a "choose your poison" or "choose the lesser of the two evils" selection...

how far are they down compared to the asian airlines?

Must have been a two-horse race against NorthWorst.
