I traveled in East Germany and East Berlin back in the 1960s, and it was quite an eye-opener. However, as scary as traveling behind the iron curtain was, at least the East Germans had something similar to the rule of law in effect, making travel there and then somewhat safe. North Korea is ruled by an unpredictable, unstable, and homicidal mad man, so traveling in that country is unpredictably unsafe, and something to be avoided if at all possible.

But Labourdette said "there are no security issues" for travelers, though he admitted "very restrictive" conditions, not least tight surveillance that limits foreigners to just a handful of hotels and restaurants.

Why on earth would anyone want to travel under THOSE conditions?? surely there are better places to visit.
