I checked the internet, but I can't find the meaning of 'aloft' in this case. When I saw the headline, I thought it was a floating hotel or something.

This is hilarious -- they make it sound like something momentous happened when in fact it's just the introduction of a new hotel chain. I didn't realize "world's first" was a synonym for "now open for business."

sort of marketing gimmicks, worthless to mention especially the rate is not cheap though, i believe!!

Goodness, isn't that interesting? Glad to see that it made the news headlines.

"the first aloft to open" ...

"Aloft" is now a noun? Do these rooms come with a loft?

Psst, try writing aloft with a capital.

That's what I thought too, but there is no mention in the article what makes this hotel special. If it's just a luxury hotel...who the heck cares?

The PR hack who wrote this should have mentioned that 'aloft' is part of the name of the hotel rather than make us figure it out. It's the same as writing 'the first loft opened in Shibuya.' Only to find out 'loft' is the name of a store, not a place to sleep. Now, instead of being intrigued enough to want to stay at aloft I'll avoid aloft alot.

It's e.e. cummings' new favorite hotel no doubt. Or would be if he (and being deliciously unconventional by not using uppercase for proper nouns) hadn't died about a hundred years ago. But seriously, so the mammoth Starwood Hotel conglomerate launched yet another niche brand in Montreal . .. so? I heard they're shuttering the Hooters Casino in Las Vegas, why isn't that front-page news too?

aloft Montreal Airport, the first aloft to open anywhere in the world.

The first in the world? Really? The corporate website below shows another 10 of this chain 'ready for stay', so someone's telling porkies, or that person's working from some very old copy.

looks like another shameless plug rather than a news story

I too thought it was a floating hotel.

the concept of the hotel is as ridicilous as this headline. I assume -and for the sake of the owner and operator's sake I hope I'm right - that I wont go to bed in Montreal and wak up in Chihuahua!

how on earth did the opening of a piddly hotel in Montreal end up as "news" in Japan?

"...featuring wireless internet access and plug & play, a one-stop connectivity solution for multiple electronic gadgetry such as PDAs, cell phones, mp3 players and laptops".

Well, I guess that with so many people not being able to enjoy these "features" in their own houses these day, people will be lining up to get in. Sarcasm /off.

You'd have to be desperate to go to a place like this for a vacation. I think Montreal would be great for a vacation, hope to go one day, but I really won't pay much attention to the kind of hotel I stay at.
