Yotel to open first hotel in Japan

Yotel has signed its first hotel in Japan.

Scheduled to open in 2024 under a long-term management agreement, Yotel Tokyo will be located in Ginza, one of Tokyo’s most desirable and dynamic neighborhoods.

The 244-room hotel will showcase the brand’s latest features including robotic concierges, motorised SmartBeds and fully integrated technologies designed to provide a completely touchless guest experience from reservation all the way through to check-out.

Yotel Tokyo will also feature the brand’s versatile public areas, a 24/7 fitness centre, a Grab-and-Go cafe, meeting space and an outdoor terrace.

“Japan’s focus on technology and innovation has been an important source of inspiration for Yotel ever since our inception,” said Hubert Viriot, CEO of Yotel. “We are immensely proud and excited to announce our first hotel in Tokyo. A flagship for our group, Yotel Tokyo will also be a steppingstone to roll out our brand across Japan, a market of strategic importance for Yotel.”

Yotel Tokyo will be just steps away from the heart of Ginza and a fifteen-minute walk from Tokyo station, home to the city’s main Shinkansen high-speed rail terminal.

Yotel Tokyo is part of Yotel’s wider expansion strategy that covers key cities in Japan including Sapporo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe.

The company is also looking for opportunities to roll out YotelAir, the group’s transit hotel concept, at key gateway airports and train stations in the country.

this is one place I would definitely shun. I happen to like the people who work at Japan's hotels. No robot will ever take my affection away from those people.

Someone is clearly not familiar with Japan's chronic lack of workers and the need for businesses to work around this issue.

As a (formerly and sadly, thanks to J-Gov's anti-tourism policy) yearly visitor to Japan, this is one place I would definitely shun. I happen to like the people who work at Japan's hotels. No robot will ever take my affection away from those people.

Great article (PR release?)

I read it and I still don't know what Yotel is, where they are from, where they exist or any other context.

So far, based on this article and included photo I dislike them. One, no one wants to pay a human being or employ anyone (but everyone wants paying customers somehow) and two, I cannot stand the colour purple. Maybe fans of Prince or 14th century decor would disagree.

Yotel was a British founded, not a Japanese one. Yotel is now majority owned by Dubai-based IFA Hotels and Resorts KSCC.

It is not surprising that the xenophobic Japanese would devise a touchless, contactless method for lodging gaijin.

They are hoping the borders for tourists will be open by 2024.

You’ll be PAYING for THAT room, if a capsule costs ¥5000.
