TV commercial of the week: Milk makes you big

In this commercial, a young boy meets a giant girl in a park. The girl asks the boy to kiss her. First, he tries to pole vault up to her lips but that fails.

Then he tries a jet pack, but just as he almost reaches her lips, the girl sneezes and he is blown into the ground where the jet pack explodes.

Suddenly, the boy wakes up. He's been dreaming at his kitchen table. He opens the refrigerator and realizes that there's no milk, so he goes off to the supermarket. A French song is used for the soundtrack.

What a great way to get girls to stop drinking milk!

This is so stupid. The boy should have built a shrinking machine to shrink the girl down to normal size. But no, he tries to become a giant like her!

So many people sneeze here without covering their mouths. Dirty.

Where is Doraemon, when you need him?

Wow... 50's advertising at its best. Next they'll be making posters of beautiful women with minty-peach smoke coming out of their mouths, or bald-headed but extremely muscular men with cigarettes photo-shopped into their mouths to advertise how smoking is strong and cool. Oh wait, they've been doing that for the last decade.

Is that Umika Kawashima?

Anyone who drinks milk without knowing the truth about how bad it is for the human body, is deluded or unaware of the facts. Milk has no nutritional value for the human body, but is a multi-billion dollar business. The calcium in milk is only good for cows and cannot be digested or used by the human body.

In the wake of food contamination in Fukushima, milk sales have been hit hard. This ad is a painful attempt at getting people to buy milk. And, I have to add, this girl looks like she's barely out of high-school and the guy looks like he could be old enough to be her father!!

I'm calling shenanigans, Bookowls, because there's no other polite way to put it. Milk has casein protein plus carbohydrates. Both are nutritional. The calcium in milk is not absorbed as readily as the calcium from other sources, but that hardly means milk has no nutritional value.

Or are you one of those 9-11 Milk Truthers blaming the Milkitary-Industrial Complex that Eisenhower so presciently warned us about?

She looks junior high, if that, from the pic I see. And I can't determine the man/boy's age at all. Do I care? No. I don't see why you "have to add" it.

This ad is a year old.

Milk is a natural stress reliever. People who seek revenge, retribution and are prone to violence or have a lot of stress due to problems with work and love life, should drink a glass of milk in the the morning to reduce stress levels. Drink a glass of milk before bed to for comfort, peacefulness, good sleep and sweet dreams.

I drink it every day to maintain my D cup.

Not sure about milk, still got my daily LG-21, etc.

But I did cut out the caffeine some time ago and feel way better for it and I am talking 0-caffeine.

Neither would I give up cheese, etc which are all made from milk.

Very good.

Read somewhere the caffeine has some cancer inhibiting properties.

I does.

But if I start worrying about anything that is good or bad for my health = I get nothing done. Still try to keep a healthy balance in my diet.

As for cancer had more cases in my family and pets than I care for and realised there is NOTHING we can do to prevent it. Even hits totally healthy people like Lance Armstrong, just a crap-shoot.

I like the milk with 4.6% fat - it is the best, tasty and actually smells like milk. I am not sure why Japanese people think milk, cheese, yogurt will make them fat.

it's something different and cool

Nessie: You are correct that milk does have SOME nutritional value, but the fact of the matter is that of all the things that are bad for the human body, dairy is the worst (of course I'm not including junk food or stuff like that). I'll never give up cheese, mind you, but I ingest it knowing full well it's reducing my life span.

Yeah, mostly genetic. People freak out about it too much. The stress over worrying about diet probably promotes cancer as much as bad diet itself. Eat a variety of foods and chill out.

Milk drinking oftentimes praised as nutritious by the government has probably never been accepted as part of the normal diet due to the resistance of the general public although times have changed. In the past it was regarded as either medicine or a special type of health drink for the sick or persons of weak constitution except for the canned condensed milk used by the nursing mother mothers as a supplement to breast milk. In the present besides a sportsperson the consumption of not only milk but dairy products is limited and sets the Japanese eating habits apart from the westerner

Cow's milk contains all kinds of good things.

Chock a block with nutrition, it turns a baby cow from the size of a large dog to a huge animal in only a year.

That's its purpose.

Why do you think we get fat when we drink milk?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I suppose people on here are arguing about the nutritional benefits (or otherwise) of cow's milk, but where I came from in the Florida Keys, cows were a rare animal years ago (I'm 65) - only rich folks had cows, or drank their milk. Poor people like my family used to drink hog's milk (ever tried milking a hog? They have up to 16 teeties!), and sometimes even the milk of live captured possums and raccoons (raccoon milk is especially nice on breakfast cereal!). I even had one neighbor who swore he'd bred a chicken with teeties that you could milk, and that chicken's milk was extremely delicious and wholesome (It supposedly tasted of scrambled eggs) but nobody ever saw him do it, and I think he was spinning a yarn. He later got hunged for stealing brushes.
