The average attention span wants to see the dresses, and the winners. Quickly.

What is this artile trying to say? The Oscars reward technical and artistic excellence. That doesn't always go hand in hand with "Blockbuster" ideals. Frankly, I'd be really surprised if Leonard Nimoy were to be nominated for best actor in a Star Trek role. Is there really a need for high audience numbers on the live showing of the Oscars presentation? Most people just watch the heavily edited highlights to get their "fix".

saw The Hurt Locker on a flight and actually stuck to my seat or paused it when needed (rare for me)... Sort of a reality check for with the times for our boys in Iraq...

My money is on any Steven Seagal movie.

I actually enjoy the Oscars. Yes it is a showcase for the ashamingly rich, but still it`s an award show where often times quality of the small flicks win out over box office money monsters. The winners usually deserve it...miles apart from the Grammies.

I hope The Cove is nominated and wins best documentary so that a few people in Japan find out what is actually going on in their country

Of course not, but lately good movies are almost certainly overlooked if they become box office successes. Expanding the number of nominees to 10 may help include some movies that would otherwise be shunned by the high art crowd.

Not lately. A number are awarded for progressive and liberal political agendas.

'Brokeback Mountain'... 'nuff said.

I, for one, won't watch. These people make a living by pretending to be other people. Then, they alienate half of their audience (conservatives) with their incoherent political rants. If I want to here someone rambling away incoherently, I'll listen to Obama.
