Qatar keeper seems pleasantly mad. Can't see them scoring a goal all tournament. Heads may roll, literally.

This gentlemen is absurd and lacking in dignity. FIFA needs a new president. A man with integrity and intelligence is required, someone like Mr Bach who is also humble and kind and has a decent hair cut, not a skinhead like this thug.

Qatar the FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts are about to make history. Hats off to the Qataris and to their well wishers. Prior to real celebrations of joy and happiness, several cultures in the Global North are known to conduct rituals of mourning, weeping, and gnashing of their teeth, say prominent anthropologists of renowned stature. In the recent past in the run up to FIFA World Cup tournaments in Japan and South Korea, or in Brazil, or Russia, and in South Africa, rituals of mourning, weeping and gnashing of teeth were on full display in several countries in the Global North. Later those very professional mourners were seen enjoying the real world cup events and some were even seen blowing the Vuvuzelas all over South Africa and triumphantly returning to their countries of origin with Vuvuzelas in their hands and more in their suitcases.

This guy's comments won't make any difference to my indifference toward soccer, possibly one of the most boring spectator sports ever invented.

What makes Qatar's position totally hypocritical is, of course, the fact that there will be alcohol available, but in corporate boxes at the stadia. So, there is a firm moral dictate against alcohol, but not for the favoured money spinners. Go figure.

if you dig deep, you'll find quite a nice payoff from qatar's gov and spy agencies

“ He added: "For what we Europeans have been doing for the last 3,000 years, we should apologize for the next 3,000 years before starting giving moral lessons to people." “
Oh yes, European history is full of blood(!), but you know what, we’re always learning from our past mistakes; and everyone agrees that Europe is a much better place today; this is two thousand and twenty two(!)(!)(!), after all; can’t say the same thing about certain countries; so yes, we can, and should be giving moral lessons, anytime(!), anywhere(!);
problem is that this uproar should’ve started a long time ago, not now; now it’s too late; now I only care about what happens inside the pitch; ( maybe because I’m a genuine football fan(?) )

All of the same people that say this will be the first chiming in on the games and performances. So much complaining about the past 3 World Cups and several Olympic games then everyone turns on thier TVs to watch. It is just media bandwagoning.

FIFA chief Infantino accuses World Cup critics of 'hypocrisy':
Nothing strange. It is only normal for a hypocrite to accuse other opponents of hypocrisy.
World Cup is the most covertly orchestrated stage show of deceit by the rich globally.
Nothing much left to be said..
Paustovsky
On a positive note, it is a good opportunity to catch up on some movies, read a few books I've ordered and have a drash on some new games.
Never been a fan of International football. Haven't watched a tournament since France '98. Compared to club football it is a poorly prepared, dull, safety-first dirge played out by players who happen to have the same passport.
Just the words 'fan zone' make you cringe. Corralled into corporate hospitality hellscapes to consume sponsored bilge. It is bovine acquiescence monetised.
I'm sure it is absolutely giving the finger to the shadowy globalists.

Denying fans a few beers is undoubtedly a mighty blow against the deep state globalist cabal. The resistance starts here.
You sound like a real fun fellow.
Moonraker
More let's say creative logic, in the same vein as Infantino's. If Qatar doesn't like more inclusive "globalist (whatever it really means to you)" ideas then why seek to hold the tournament in the first place?
Jimizo
I see. To renege on an understanding 2 days before the tournament starts is no problem for you.
I value honesty and honouring agreements. You clearly don’t.
Fair enough. We obviously see the world differently.
Baradzed
Thanks for ruining the world cup 2022. Next thing to do is Winter Olympics in august in Saudi Arabia.
Jimizo
You have no problem with suddenly changing rules 2 days before a tournament, supposedly on the whim of a dictator?
Dear me.

This is the bottom line, Fifa policy,
FIFA president Gianni Infantino defence is untenable as is his position.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino should resign.
Fifa World Cup and the other abomination pretending to be a sporting extravaganza, "The Olympic Games" have a single location policy,
Every four years participants meet and draw swords so to speak.
I won't pretend my hypocrisy will ensure even holding the event in Qatar I will still be watching the World Cup, ,shame on me.
I will need to "Hail Mary" until the next World Cup.
Jimizo
He said that he, and I suppose that can mean FIFA, should be criticized and not Qatar.
Why not both?
Dylan
Resign.
plasticmonkey
Nobody forced Qatar to host the World Cup.
They want the world to see Qatar as a modern, progressive country. But it’s not. It’s just stinking rich and we are force fed a sportwashed image of the place.
The whole thing stinks. Don’t watch it.
Japantime
I love all the big groups of Indian fans of each participating country.

Attempt to defend the indefensible, then if all else fails throw in some serious dollops of whataboutery.
FIFA chief Infantino, "today I feel wally", more feet in his mouth than an attached to an entire World Cup squad, dig that hole deeper, after all, the fun and games hasn’t even begun.
Better still, have a Bud.
TokyoLiving
A farce is a farce, even if it is a world farce.
sunfunbun
No you don't, you idiot.

Disgraceful speech defending everything that is wrong about Qatar. He understands discrimination because as a child he had red hair and was bullied. Well, he could have changed the color of his hair but people can't change the color of their hair. FIFA promised the fans that beer would be able at the WC then the day before Qatar cancels that.
An insult for all.
The fans who have arrived are complaining about the appalling accommodation conditions. Badly built. Lack of sufficient ac.
It does not matter what he feels he can't whitewash the WC.

Anyone interested in how and why we now have the World Cup in Qatar should spend an hour watching this series of video from Tifo Football, presented by The Athletic sports website. Exceptionally good:

Yes, it is twisted logic but whataboutery is often part of the armoury of debaters. They think they have scored a checkmate with it. At least we cannot accuse FIFA of hypocrisy. They gave it to Russia last time after all, and I remember Argentina in 1978 was under military dictatorship.
virusrex
His declarations put Qatar in even worse light, because he is unable to refute them, instead he just says others are ALSO guilty so they should not point fingers. The government of Qatar is still actively calling anything different from heterosexual attraction condemnable, that is not a show of support in any sense.
dagon
European powers had slaves and tortured homosexuals and women for thousands of years before stopping these practices and recognizing some basic human rights.
So we are fine with holding a sports festival in a country that continues these practices.
Amazingly warped logic and his virtue signaling expressions of support amount to zero.
Like with the Olympic scam platitudes, money rules.
Wellington
I am sure he has been paid well for this little tantrum.
The usual excitement over the World Cup is sorely lacking this time around and it's his fault.
