England have apparently never been able defeat USA at a World Cup.

I set the alarm clock to watch. Disappointing/frustrating, US deaserved a win here.

England women know how to win.

The men might as well go shopping. .

England won't be going far in the tournament on this evidence.

Despite the emphasis on rainbows, the England team won't find any gold if they continue to play like that.

Did England have Covid? Jet lag? Or were they just on strike? I was still waiting for them to start playing when the final whistle blew.

That was probably the worst performance since Iceland. It beggars belief that 11 professional footballers, most being £50m+ premiership players, can step on to a football pitch and play like that. And it had little to do with opposition - the US played much better in the first half v. Wales.

Nothing of value from Southgate. No change of tactics at half time, if there were any tactics - none were visible. They should have had a bollocking in the break that they would remember on their death beds, but nothing. Zip. Then the trademark far-too-late subs. No use of Foden either. Pathetic from those on the pitch and the manager.

Credit to Pickford for yelling at them to try and motivate them - Southgate doesn't. And to the much maligned Harry Maquire, who did his job, when nobody around him was doing their's.

I'd love it if a hack asked Southgate straight out, 'why was such a talented team so rubbish?' but I doubt they would. England do need to win the group, as they have been awful all Summer. The 6-2 v Iran was out of character. And the English FA should refund the fans' money. Unlike the team, they turned up.

Ironically, even though Wales got beaten by Iran, their game was a fabulous spectacle. It had everything the England game didn't, with both sides giving it their best from start to finish.

Maguire, not Maquire.

Disappointing from England. Sat too deep and assumed that controlling the game from the back would lead to goals, but every time the ball was played forward the attack petered out.

Maguire's head in defence proved valuable, but Southgate left changes too late. However progress to the next round seems assured and I think they will up their game in the knockout stages

Foden is supposed to be the next English superstar but we didn’t see him yesterday; go figure; “Thank you” for making me waste two hours of my life; probably one of the most disappointing games of all time; (actually yesterday the whole thing was a mess) … and I didn’t sleep because of this(?)

Spot on,  Southgate shoe should be wedged up where the sun doesn't shine, a number of players would have been lynched in the street if they put in a performance so docile at club level.

It's always rather amusing to see the U.S. able to field an adequate team of soccer players from a country that's much more interested in other sports like baseball, football and basketball.

Typical cocky English commentator. When Netherlands were leading 1-0 against Ecuador, he mentioned England manager Southgate must take note of these young Ecuadorian players. So cocksure? After England game, now I hope they meet the Dutch and get knock out next round. Please, they have won nothing since '66, even Denmark and Greece did better in recent years winning Euro. No shame, typical snobbish English man.

Dear or dear, get out of bed the wrong side hun?

A battle I was looking forward to with both teams being managed by former Palace players. What a dismal display. Southgate decision making seems very poor to me.

The match was dour but the Yanks were more up for it, I’d give them 6.5/10, England 3/10, must try harder lads.

Quite a beatdown put on the Brits by the Americans.

Big loss for England again.

Most of the best players in the Premier League are not from England anyway, so no surprise for the loss.
