I think it’s very possible, given the fact that there is less testing and the fact that the government is completely inapt in not strictly enforcing the rules of social distancing and doing a complete lockdown to try and contain the virus as closely as they can get it and the fact that there are no tests that they take to determine whether a person has “had” The disease or if they currently have it and they never mentioned about using the antibodies to the system in giving them to people that have a weak immune system. Therefore we really don’t know the exact numbers of how many people are infected or how many people have died from it already, but I definitely think that the pandemic can be a lot worse in Japan, especially that Japan is not doing a good job at trying to delegate how and which is the best way to contain this virus.

Japan and the Nordic countries have similar assets in a pandemic including strong sense of personal space and hygiene, relative geographic isolation, reluctance to hug and kiss strangers, taking shoes off indoors, slender builds, a diet rich in fish and in Japan's case, no shaking hands and no stigma in wearing face masks.

Also, the Korean travel boycott to Japan ironically probably saved Japanese lives.

My question, though, is why was Iran struck so hard and so fast considering Japan gets more Chinese tourists than Iran.

Some of our more febrile posters were predicting bodies piling up on the streets of Tokyo in Match, while others were saying that the whole thing had already passed. Both groups are very unhelpful.

Hopefully, for whatever reason or combination of reasons, Tokyo will not be another New York. At this point it looks like it won’t. As much as they possibly can, experts in this field need to find out why this is the case. I’ve read possibilities including different strains of the virus, attention to hygiene and widespread mask wearing.

As someone who isn’t trained in this area, I’m open to the possibilities including mask wearing. It could be a contributing factor regardless of some people’s dislike of them.

The "explosive" number of confirmed cases may vary depending on testing numbers. Better check and compare death toll and serious ill people' number.

To copy-cat the NYC pattern, Tokyo would need more than 100 deaths daily, within a single week. I find it unlikely to happen.
