If there really were a common Human reality that was the same for everyone, that everyone perceived in the same way, the question might be easier to answer. But there are approaching eight billion individual perceptual Human 'realities' amongst us and, for the individual, what THEY see is 'reality'. Few of us have identical perceptual realities however much we may agree on many things, there will be differences. So the first question that must be asked is if there is a 'standard' reality, what or who determines what it is? What Authority determines this IS reality, that is NOT? Is disagreeing with what the majority believes to be 'reality' to be considered being "isolated" from 'reality'? Or do we just accept the term 'reality' as a 'thing' despite its completely nebulous reality and accuse people of being isolated from it when their perceptions don't agree with our own perceptions? And aren't Facebook and Twitter designed to SHARE realities? I think the initial statement needs to be rephrased and the 'some say' part expanded before any thought is given to one's own perceptions of the 'reality' of its claim.

You are confusing reality with "reality." There is literally only one reality.

I agree. SocMed will connect you with people, yes, and it will connect you to a community that you yourself chose, which is why you become detached with reality. Imagine if all of your SocMed is solely focused on let's say, your interests like going to hot springs and ryokan, and only that, then you'll be cut off from other things such as current events. That is when people tend to lose connection with reality as they become confined in their own bubble. I think it's important to once in a while, leave your bubble and reconnect with reality - get briefed on the important news and other matters that are vital to your existence.

I value Facebook - it is indispensable for keeping up with my diaspora of friends scattered throughout the world. I have found, though, that often a conscious effort must be made to choose common joy over envy. Just remember that most people post photos of themselves frolicking with their dog, not cleaning up their dog's vomit.

Absolutely people value social media interaction more then human interaction it’s scary and very sad . To me sure when I’m bored but I’d rather go out walking with people or friends then sit inside all day at the computer / phone

Never created accounts so I do not care about the probs of others who have. They made the wrong choice. Up to them to change.
