Not a movie, but I like to watch Juste pour rire les gags. They used to show them on the planes too, but for some reason they stopped. They're funny but never as mean as Câmeras Escondidas with Silvio Santos
I never feel sad for no reason, but if I did and the only option was watching a movie, I'd probably go for one of the Tora-san movies, anything by Itami Juzo, Life of Brian, the Meaning of Life (Monty Python) or one of the Harry Potter movies. So there you go guys, hit me with your minus buttons!
Not a film but Taskmaster goes down a real treat when I've got the blues. What do you get when you put a group of comedians together and assign them increasingly mad and absurd tasks to complete? Hilarity. Pure, chaotic hilarity.

Actually, if I am sad I want to explore and indulge sadness, not be cheered up. I am more likely to watch a sad film or hear a sad song.

Usually a film that changes my perspective, helps...
I just watched "Ladies in Lavender" with the late-great Dame Maggie Smith,
and Dame Judy Dench. Other great co-stars, a great story, scenery, the whole package...
I cry buckets, but then feel better...

When life is getting me down, I watch a bit of Threads to cheer me up. It's a great date movie:

I don't. I just go outside for a walk, read a good quality SF book, hit the gym, etc.
Or just go for a run.
