What can newspapers still offer that digitally delivered journalism cannot?

Thousands of photos and prints survived the tsunami back in 2011, digital files on computers and storage media were lost... But no newspapers, they go soggy and rip when wet!

Also, once something is IN PRINT, it can't be erased - as so often news items on the net are sanitized & vanish.

Um... ever heard of book burning? And it's much easier to backup and replicate digital data than physical data to prevent this - just copy/paste or take a screenshot, whereas you'd need to reprint or photocopy printed data.

Honest, verifiable news investigated by qualified journalists. Online news, in the main, stinks of hyperbole and hidden agendas.

I like to read the newspaper when I'm traveling. Get a bit of local news while eating breakfast.

For wrapping fish and chips?

Packing material, to help protect dishes and other fragile stuff. It is also excellent bedding material for worms (vermicomposting). Also useful for starting a fire (BBQ).

Crossword puzzles and comics...much better in paper form than digital. Also, I used to love the big thick Saturday and Sunday newspapers in Australia, with all sorts of interesting features. You could spend a couple of hours on the sofa reading them.

I enjoyed pullout features for special events. I could go straight to the section I wanted to read without the hassle of clicking on a story and waiting for the page to download.

I really miss the golden age of newspapers and so do friends of mine who use to work at newspapers.
