What do you think about suspected gropers jumping onto train tracks at stations to avoid capture?

I see it from multiple perspectives. If the guy was actually guilty for groping someone in the train, then escaping is to be expected (since nobody apparently wants to end up behind bars for doing their crimes). On the other hand, there are probably people there who would scam innocent people into falsely accuse them of groping, prompting them to escape - which makes them all the more look guilty. I think running away is a poor choice since not only would you put your life at risk, you're also making yourself look more guilty...and delay train services.

If he’s guilty, yes. Run

Wasn't there an article on here a few years ago where a lawyer recommended that if you were falsely accused of groping, the best option was to escape? I think it was because even if there was evidence of your innocence, the protracted legal process to prove this innocence would probably destroy your life anyway.

That being said, jumping onto the tracks is probably never a good idea.

Having seen the rule of law works in Japan, and a legal system unfit for purpose, maybe some people feel running is the only option, dispite being innocent.

It seems that in Japan anybody can make a false accusation against a person, and then that person is incarcarated for 23 days.

It depends on the express train schedule.

Let's make this easier.

What do you think about suspected criminals running away to avoid capture?

Does it make them look less guilty if they run?

Why is this question specific to groping? The incidence of false accusation is so low as to be negligible. If they are innocent, then a mistake has been made, and that will soon come to light.

I'm genuinely wondering how you would know this to be a fact.

The incidence of false accusation is so low as to be negligible.

Can you imagine if society managed to cut rapes down to the point that it became 'negligible', telling women who got raped that they shouldn't care about it since it usually doesn't happen?

False accusations should be as equally demonized as rape. Disregarding it by calling it negligible does no one any favors.
