It is a joke! Pushing for zero covid cases by treating your citizens as if they're robots that don't need food, water, medicine, etc. I remember seeing news clips of apartment complexes in China being welded or chained shut by authorities to prevent people from leaving. Who needs prison if you live like that on a daily basis.
I think that's what a lot of "Stay Home Save Lives" advocates wanted to pursue two years ago, especially those who are against the government, and are trying to be "influential"...
Although I've only watched on a media what the country has been doing for the counter measure, I think its strategies too strict and severe for the citizens. Also they sometimes include a deprivation of human rights. People living in an area considered as cautious to the infection are not allowed go out from the front door of their house and even they do not have access to sufficient food source.
I think the country needs to come up with some more productive ideas for both the government and the citizens.
This zero covid policy makes no sense. So this is just an excuse to control their population, as others have commented, or there is another more deadly virus going around that they have not told us about.
Lockdowns and universal testing were justified when there was nothing better to do and the virus could be contained efficiently with them, that was 2020.
In this year vaccines and effective treatment reduce the risk from the current less likely to complicate variant so there is no longer a direct relationship between the number of infections and the death rates observed. Since lockdowns no longer efficiently decrease the number of cases since Delta was the predominant variant (much less with Omicron) the cost/benefit from doing them is no longer acceptable. That is why no international expert currently recommends the zero covid policy.
At the end the Chinese government is sticking to this unneffective, unsustainable policy because they are not going to accept they have a terribly deficient vaccination program (so the risk from the infection is much higher than it should be) and because they can control and manipulate their population much more easily with the excuse of covid.
No @Wobot, they won't. Pfizer and Moderna have seen that scenario taken off the table anywhere else in the world due to Covid19 again. Shame not all of you felt able to join the cause.
First, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Vietnam--all successfully implemented zero-covid strategy, with the resultant worldwide-low infections and related deaths, until the governments gave up. As an actual medical professional noted: the elimination strategy “has served us extremely well in New Zealand”, epidemiologist and public health prof Michael Baker says.
If you want fewer deaths to result than have occurred in the US, Japan, the UK, Australia, and on and on . . . it is the best strategy at keeping infections and deaths the lowest in the world, as proven by statistics (of course some might try and make up their own statistics).

This has been proven wrong over and over by basic facts, and global medical experts acknowledge the lockdowns significantly decrease the number of infections.
because they can control and manipulate their population much more easily with the excuse of covid.
A country that can control and manipulate its population, out of the endless possibilities it could choose, is going to choose a lockdown!
And the reason for the lockdowns---well, to control and manipulate its population of course!

The goverments "gave up" precisely because the cost/benefit from the policy turned negative, and it has been lauded as a valid and correct decision. The medical professionals agree that once Delta came into the equation the zero covid policy stopped being recommendable.

That would be you, since China does not have the lowest deaths in any of the available sources that count it. And by adjusting the reporting to the same way China does to hide deaths (not counting any death that happen to a patient if he has any other disease) China has higher death rates than dozens of other countries.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-51235105
See? ordering by death rate per million China is placed at 9th place. And since every other country reports deaths including patients with preexisting conditions that means China is worse than every other country that have at much 10 deaths per million, most likely even those that have 15 deaths per million or less.
This has been proven wrong over and over by basic facts, and global medical experts acknowledge the lockdowns significantly decrease the number of infections.
You have brought exactly zero international experts that support your conclusion, the last one you misquoted even clearly criticized the policy (in the part you cut from his quote of course).
A country that can control and manipulate its population, out of the endless possibilities it could choose, is going to choose a lockdown!
No, it is not going to choose a lockdown, it is going to choose all and every measure it helps it do it, including lockdowns, censure and manipulation of the system that says if someone is infected or not, between dozens of other things. In this case lockdowns are worse than efficient vaccination for every other purpose except for control and reducing the options of the population, which is why it is used by the CCP
It's way too severe and a clear violation of the citizens' human rights. I can't even begin to imagine the state of their mental healths right now. Your home is supposed to be your safe place; where you can go to relax and unwind. They've turned people's homes into prisons.
Keep people locked down and they cannot speak to each other. It keeps people under the thumb of Xi The Pooh and the CCP while also silent and controlled. Xi the Pooh all stuffed with ...
Personally, I believe that lockdowns work and I do support them, BUT lockdowns Chinese style are INSANE. There are reports of people starving to death in Shanghai. Lockdowns western style still managed to curb infections without the draconian measures put in place by China. Plus, in the west, only in the initial stages of the pandemic was 0 COVID possible. Lockdowns were implemented when there was a surge in infections.
There is a way to live with COVID and keep the infections down to a minimum and it is really simple. Put in place the means by which people can WFH and students and teachers can do remote learning.
The pandemic has taught us that society can function without the daily grind, and we should use this to our advantage to form a society that does not rely on the Hussle and Bussle pre pandemic, while at the same time nullifying the need for more lockdowns.
If we learn to work teach and study from home more, I personally believe that it will be a win-win situation.
It will help curb infections- not only COVID, but other infections such as the flu and the common cold which in turn will put less pressure on the health care system of any country. It will also help us get any future pandemics under control more quickly and smoothly.
It will help curb congestion on the streets AND contribute to the slowing down of climate change. More people working and studying from home means less vehicles used to transport people to their work and schools, which also means less deaths from traffic accidents.
It will help revitalize rural areas around the world, as spending more time at home means the need for more space. Being able to work and study from home will also mean that people will be more free in choosing where to live.
It will raise productivity. Not having to spend an hour or more each way commuting to work would allow for more time to work and sleep deprivation would decrease as well, also leading to higher work productivity.
Basically, we can live with Covid without having to resort to lockdowns, and especially not do what China is doing. 0 Covid may be impossible, but there are certain steps we can take to not only contain Covid, but also to make our lives better.
Doing more to undermine the validity of the CCP to govern than anything else ever has and more impact on the economy that feeds the military and the expansionist, imperialist dreams of Pooh Bear.

Only tenable in a country where the State has complete control and the people will not up rise against it.

Covid what? That word is already disappearing in most countries. Take a new step to breathe fresh air of your life. Don't stick on same thing.

China also has a zero-mental health policy as well.

And no, there is absolutely no need for any "new infection" conspiracy to explain the CCP doing what it always have done.

Draconian and totally useless as seen just after Shanghai opened; politically driven as Xi wants just wants to stay in power.
