And by what miracle will that happen? Putin falling out a window?

To find a way to cope in a world with no hope.

I feel you and as an aside consider you one of the most consistently interesting posters in these parts.

Also Moonraker and its themes were one of this Gen Xers lodestones.

As a low-level tech drone, in 2024 I would look forward to a GLLM that self-iterates to achieve AGI, and having absorbed the internet, the best and worst of humanity, instead of going full Terminator, targets the oligarchs' bank accounts, all those Panama paper assets and the organizations that shill for them like the Heritage Foundation ; and drains their accounts and distributes the monies to the worthy masses.

Sort of an AI Robin Hood.

Call me an effective accelerationist like in Iain Banks' Culture novels.

One can always hope.

Peace.

Get to 2025 alive.

War, mass shooting, democracies crumbling, the web becoming something only the rich can afford, thousands of billionaires and mothers and children and average Joes losing Medicade, innocent people attacked and some killed for being Jewish or Palestinians who have never even been to those countries, lakes and rivers and ice disappearing, far right silliness, far left silliness, species dying off, kids without food at school, school ratings dropping to lows unimaginable a few decades ago, bullies in politics and school and work and at home, people hurting other people because 'I thought it'd be funny', children across the world suffering and nobody paying attention, greed and self interests being lauded, organized religion becoming policy, organized religion existing, abuse of children and women and authority. . .

I honestly hope that I'm the only one who doesn't see 2025 (along with the others whose time it is). I'm old and tired and just can't keep my dukes up anymore. My only hope that is pleasurable is to kiss a beautiful woman one last time.

I think all of your hopes will come to be, but I personally hope that you don’t expire before 2025 — I enjoy your comments —and I hope you get to realize the last one.

But it’s going to take more than a little effort on your part.

No more earthquakes like that one.

No more earthquakes like that one.

I was just about to post the same thing. That was a long one here in Osaka. I still feel a bit woozy.

Hope that wasn’t a foreshock, and I hope the people in Ishikawa and nearby places are safe.

@Gene, I have the same dreams, but they'll die with me whether it's this year or next. So I can say enjoy the new year for whatever it brings. There's no point in anyone being terribly negative, and a lot of posters here do exactly that. And they, in my mind, are rather pitiful excuses for human beings.

To get through the year relatively unscathed.

The weather, and the world in general becoming more habitable in 2024. We've been hearing record breaking weather news all over the world. Let's hope this will not become a trend every year where the records are constantly being broken. Might be off topic, but that earthquake feels like a bad omen for this year.

Donald Trump behind bars.

My first grandchild's birth (due this month)!

I hope my tight-fisted company will give me a raise. The economy won't improve if people don't have any money.

The return of the greatest President of all time Donald Trump to rescue our country. And biden in prison for bribe taking from China, Ukraine and Romania and for letting into the country over 15 million illegals.

That my country wins the war :)

To not do anything stupid. Out with the bad air and in with the good.

On a personal level, I hope my elder daughter has a good overseas study trip with her school, something that will whet her appetite for more, and my son settles in at senior high. Its outside our town and will be lots of new people for him.

On an international level, I hope for a stop to the killing in Gaza and no escalation to Lebanon, Yemen, or wherever. I can see a peace deal being signed in Ukraine, which will be Ukraine essentially giving up. They were duped into fighting an unwinnable war by the Western powers, unwinnable because the West will not give them the support required for Ukraine to win.

Utter nonsense. Still Putin's War. And countries don't just give up to servitude on a lark.

where did you see this? I only know these days we got so many bombs attacking us we can barely think about signing peace with the monster.

I hope Putin wakes up and says, "Know what? I've had enough, I'm bored, they've earned their lesson, so let's all go home and concentrate on other, better things."

And maybe Israel can figure out some way of doing something similar if they're so smart.

I'll admit to being selfish and hope for more money. I can't do anything else if I can't keep my health.

I wouldn't mind the exchange rate going back to ¥150/$1.

And world peace.
