Apple this week reported the slowest sales ever of its market-leading iPhone, after years of rocketing growth. Has Apple peaked and what does the company need to do to find new sources of growth?

Drama queens of so-called business reporting, my iPhone is not an ice cream cone that melts or a bag of candy that needs to be continually refilled. Go out and find a real story you lazy hacks.

I only use about 10% of the functions on my iPhone 5 now anyway, so I'm not interested in an iPhone 6, 7, 8 or 100. The only thing I'd like to see them develop is a phone battery that doesn't need recharging every day. Once a year would be nice.

It does not need to grow -- it is already huge.

what does the company need to do to find new sources of growth?

Stop gouging its customers over questionable "improvements".

iPhone is terrible.

Android phones are so much better.

I've used both, and I didn't find either to be a clear winner. So I'm curious, what is it you think that is so much better about Androids over iphones?

Apple's bet paid rich dividends few years ago when they switched from PC manufacturer >> music >> iphone technology much earlier than their contemporaries. Only great minds like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates can envision it. Average CEO's are academically trained and influenced by current global scenario of economies.

In most of the cases technology is more of a luxury rather than necessity unlike food, clothing and shelter. Technology (and beverage soft drinks and alcoholic) companies need to re-innovate non-stop to stay at the top of their game. This slowdown was expected to happen anyways.

With internet around these days new innovative ideas get outdated much faster too.

Perhaps now the real money is elsewhere.

We've been around this carousel many times with Apple over the years. I believe the Watch & Apple TV will remain 'hobby' products, as Tim Cook likes to put it. Car Play is simply an interface now, but could be so much more in the coming years & roll-out of IoE across many industries. Apple & Google will reign supreme in this sphere because, at the end of the day, it comes down to software. Everything is software. It's a two-horse race between iOS (and its variations) & Android (and its variations). Microsoft really missed the boat on mobile and will most likely never catch up. They will continue to thrive in the enterprise sector, however.

I really feel sorry for the Apple sheeple...

I guess there is not much to choose between them now.

For me the difference is the Apple ecosystem. When you have Macs and other apple devices, they all work together really well. Android doesn't have as developed an ecosystem.

Apple are suffering from a maturing of their markets and the reduced growth seen in developing ones. I guess in order to find further growth they will need to take a larger market share or innovate. The watch certainly wasn't a breakthrough product.

I do not have a phone any more as I do not need one. When I make a business or pleasure appointment, everyone is on time as they cannot make a phone call and an excuse.

I do have a lot of Apple Products though. iPad, MacBook, MacBook Pro and 17 Mac Minis.

If they broke down more often, I would possibly buy more, but since they are such good work horses, I have no need to upgrade.

Sales are down worldwide I assume due to bad publicity. Apple has been in the a public debated along with other Multi-nationals companies weather these companies are paying enough Tax. Like Apple have paid no Tax for 6 years in the UK and this has been made public knowledge. Apple had finally agree to pay 250 million English pounds on 4.5 Billion profit. I again assume this agreement is a public image excise by both the UK Government and Apple Because the way Apple has structure itself is it legal by UK Tax law. This is happening also in Europe. So I assume here in Japan also.

I was just kidding.

I kind of noticed that the iPhone vs Android wars had fizzled out recently which I thought was a pity because it was always entertaining to watch grown men and women getting so worked up about which silly little gadget was better.

I guess there is not much to choose between them now.

For me, I just want the smartphone cameras to get better and better.
