Today marks the anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War Two. Are there any circumstances that justify war?

Britain declared war on Germany to start WW2. I think that was probably justified.

Polish self-defense WAS justified on September 1, 1939.

You might want to rephrase the question, JT, especially as the Japanese war against China and its expansion as the Pacific War were aggressive wars.

It depends on the war.

Anyone who tries to tell you there is an easy answer to if there should be a war or not is trying to sell you an ideology where they think for you.

I'm sure there are plenty who have justified war over the centuries and there will be more to come.War is a very profitable business, after all.

Nice one. Lump the just and unjust together and imply there is no difference. This is a revolting statement indicating moral weakness. Thank God the British cabinet thought differently on September 3, 1939.

If they hadn’t there might not be a Pole, Christian, Jew or Atheist, alive today.

Self-Defense and Survival. As said in the Art of War, an army on death ground will fight to the last man for they have nothing left. War is never pretty, but if you're out of cards to play, well...

Yes. If your country is invaded or attacked, that probably justifies war (unfortunately).

Two world wars in a row bankrupted Britain.

Yes, when one country surprise attacks another country.

Ethically, No - sort of against everything ethical

Politically, Yes - just an extension of that.

Currently, No - there are international soccer and other ball, contact and e-sports not to mention chess, shogi and i-go

Economically, Yes - what else are governments going to spend money on which has less economic value except to keep ethically, politically and currently questionable corporations solvent and highly profitable and a few people employed within their local economies?

Sensibly, No - in the past enlightened people had imagined that humans wold have moved beyond wars by now

Justifiably, Yes and No - it depends who wins, doesn't it!
