Do you agree with Seven & i Holdings' decision to reject a takeover offer from major Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard?

No. You have to ask why they are doing it (not for the good of society, LOL), and why they are promising to fix their loss-making operations NOW, instead of earlier on. Just goes to show that Japanese corporations, especially ones run by founder familities, are normally able to prioritize their own vested interests rather than bulld a finanacially sound business that generates enough money to properly pay their employees.

I have the sense that no one in Japan really wants this takeover. What does Couche-Tard offer to Japanese customers that is an improvement over what 7-11 already is?
From a consumer/customer perspective, Japan taking over every other convenience store in the world and raising them up to Japanese quality would be welcome. A foreign company with nothing really to offer except money and desire for global market dominance? No thanks, I’ll pass.

I agree with the rejection on the condition 7-11 put its act together, brings in better management, streamlined and reduces its outlets by cutting out the losmaking once and reduce product waste which hits profits

Couche-Tard....sounds like French slang for something unpleasant in the bathroom.
But yes, I am with Robert and I DEMAND quicker service and colder beer.
And, I am not ashamed to ask for a plastic bag either.

The Circle-Ks in Vietnam are regularly stocked with Cadbury chocolate, German beer, Gillette shower gel, among other things. You can also buy SIM cards there without a fuss. So yeah, that would definitely be an improvement. Bring it on!

Their company, their decision.

No it's not. The company is not owned by the management. It is a public company overwhelming owned by a varied mix of shareholders, including non-Japanse ones. Management's ultimate responsibility is to the owners, not to certain individuals within managegement who may have personal vested interests. Which is why this case is kinda' controversial.
