I get plenty of sleep. Because I make it a priority.

I as well, though I need less in my old age than I did when I was younger. I used to hurt if I didn't get eight hours. Now six hours has me feeling rested.

The key was to stop setting an alarm. I just wake up when my body wakes up.

Due to a medical condition I don't get enough sleep. Many people don't realize how important sleep is. Instead they may think it is a waste of time. But time spent in bed asleep is time well spent . There are very important things that the brain need to do while asleep. These include forming memories and going through the day's event. So you need to give it a chance to do these things and make sure to spend enough time in bed. Some reasons people don't get enough sleep include eating, drinking late, too much caffeine, stress, drug side effect, sleeping disorders and the increasing demand on your time.

I guess I have some kind of serious anxiety problem, because it takes me about 1 and a half, sometimes 2 hours to fall asleep, and I wake up during the night. I think I get around 4 hours a night sleep and it is interrupted .

I get between 8-9hrs(max 10hrs) a day.

Boring J-TV helps to hit the bed early but i wake-up same time every morning.

And here I was thinking where could I get a 20 minutes nap without anyone seeing me at work? Mmm... I'm so sleepy. I went to bed at 2:30 coz no matter how tire I am during the day, the clock hits 23:00 and don't know why I get insanely genki. I could go to bed early and try to close my eyes but nope, I won't fall asleep till at least 2:00. To then wake up at 7:30. Oh and sometimes when I get into a deep sleep and I know I'm going to finally sleep for 7hrs, beeee--------! My tinnitus gets loud enough to wake me up. Sucks!

So to the answer, no. I don't get enough sleep (5 to 6hr. max).

I used to work shifts and night-shifts are the worst you hit your 2nd boost around 02:00-02:30 but it don't last long and you soon hits low. We started at 23:00-07-00 shifts.

Plus, a Caffeine boost only really works once after that you need your sleep/rest

Not easy to adjust your sleeping cycle but it can be done with diet, relaxation and varying your exercises. I dropped Caffeine, Soda, etc and sleep now much better.

Also remove your TV if you got one in the bedroom, temperature control also helps.

HTH.

No because I have had chronic insomnia since I was a kid. Sucks, but have to live with it.

No. My girlfriend snores and grinds her teeth.

@ Wakarimasen I feel your pain. My bitter half snores like a freight train

Eek! I go to bed between 9 and 10PM and always, and I mean always, wake up at about 2AM. That's enough sleep for me, so I get up, start the coffeemaker, sit at the computer, read JT and my emails, play a game or two of solitaire, then hit the street running for an hour. You wouldn't believe how peaceful it is out there, when almost everyone else is asleep. I don't even need my hearing aids, just my eyes and sixth sense...but, I'm weird, according to family and friends. Except those in Japan, of course, because they'd never say it. Think it, yes, but say it, no. And to all, a good night! Fact is, the older you get, the less sleep you really need. The problem, from my perspective, is finding something meaningful to do for 18 to 20 hours a day. Volunteering helps, as does writing.

You're not weird at all mate. Good on you for keeping a healthy lifestyle.

You could also try studying Japanese, and if you are completely fluent in reading and writing, you could try translating some books into english as a side job. Perfect for those lonely quiet hours.

You are not weird at all. Sounds like you have a routine that works for you! You can also appreciate the peaceful wee hours of the morning !!

I have no doubt you will find plenty to fill your long hours

Got a toddler. So no.

No. We live in a sleep-deprived country, but I shouldn't let that, or my commute, be the excuse that it has become.

Where else in the developed world do you see children with bags under their eyes?

good point

Thanks, Aly Rustom and Tokyo-Engr. Sure is quiet out there right now (3:34AM PDT). I do study Japanese, but not as much as I should, as a 5-8 week visitor to the country every year for the past ten. Conversationally, I'm always a bit rusty, but after the first week or two, I manage okay. Wish I could live there, but I'd have a tough time deciding where; so much of Japan is truly gorgeous. As for translating books, yikes! That's a tough one, and I'm sure many of the posters here at JT would do a much better job.

Trevor, you live in canada right? I envy you as my wife and I were dreaming of immigrating there, but its just so difficult. Nice life, lovely people, easygoing lifestyle, and much less stress. I reckon I'd get much more sleep

Of all the countries I've lived in, Canada was my favorite.

Unfortunately, my time there was way too short. And you're right, it's hard to immigrate there.

Same here.

Unfortunately, my time there was way too short.

Same again.
