No. I can cite many reasons, but the most apparent one would be the need to conserve battery and not risk freezing or lagging from your device. If you really want to appear professional during tele-meetings, just be attentive and answer when you're being asked.
I think it's a pointless question. If it's video meeting, it's a video meeting. Personally, I'd never participate in something like that. I like to sit at my home office desk naked except for socks and shoes. And on top of that, I retired several years ago and don't do meetings. Period.

No. We used to do fine on phone conference calls. I dont like this new fad for seeing my face on camera all the time

depends on your role in the meeting. You should at least turn on the camera when you are speaking.
Except for that, you can listen without having to show your face/surroundings/what else you are doing for the whole meeting time.

A video meeting is just that so put on proper attire and a neutral background and turn on the camera.

Not a fan of close up video calls. All those red faces and so on. not sure exactly what value they add, beyond showing you are present and correct.

It is perfectly OK to switch off camera during the meeting.
