Do you think reports of the Myanmar junta hoarding cyclone relief aid and China's stance on Tibet will make people think twice about making donations to disaster relief in those two countries?

I really dont understand or like donations. Though for those who are of the mind to do so, it may just sway their decision, though I dont think China and Myanmar would be too worried about that. Hey, this could be a good lesson in the concept of donations.

NO, certainly not. Donations=Rapport whereas Reports=Bias paperwork.

Yes, but that doesn't mean people who think like that are right.

It's not just Myanmar and China. Everytime I go to Roppongi, there are are always a few Japanese people collecting donations for the Niigata earthquake, whenever that was. They target foreigners. I always wonder who these people are and whether that money ever goes to the earthquake victims.

Currently, I would be more willing to help with China because the government there is moving quickly and will accept outside help. But the Myanmar junta's reaction is a disgrace and I am sorry to say that I won't donate any money to cyclone relief just yet.

I would like to leave these kind of relief efforts up to our governments and the UN. I always feel worried that my individual donation is reduced to nothing as it changes through sticky hands. No doubt Burma's government is a disgrace, but the Burmese are beautiful and I hope the world's governments will offer any help that is needed.

Why contribute to a relief effort that will not reach the people in need?

As to China, I think most people can differentiate between the countries gov't and innocent disaster victims.

Definitely think so, YES!

Smartacus, what news have you been reading? The Chinese have said that foreign assistance is not required at this time (they are taking money though).

china, no...burma, possibly...france already said they weren't sending as much aid to Burma as they could until they're sure its gonna end up with the people who need it

I pay tax to Australian Government which offer helps to both Burma and China, and it is very OK by me.These are natural disasters, you just think you help the victims and you feel easy.

All the help should comes from a sincere heart. The help with condition just doesn't work and this is not so called 'help' anymore. Furthermore, I am not really able to understand the reasons of putting this 2 cases together for discussion. One is their government trying to stop the aid from reaching the victims and the other is just has a different standpoint from some of us. Don't you think that the people who have different stance from you doesn't mean that they are wrong? Don't put yourself at the center of the world. They may not need sympathy, but empathy! As for me, I don't see any point to discuss this further. It is either you help sincerely or you don't.

Every time I am asked for money to donate for some worthy cause I think of something someone or something objectionable associated with that cause. Then I take the moral high ground and refuse to donate.

I am glad to see JT supporting such an approach.

I like China's stance on Tibet so I would like to donate.

"I really don't understand or like donations"

Said by someone who has never been in need.

scanner4u- whats insincere about this effort to provide massive assistance is the behavior of the Juntas. They are only interested in receiving aid as long as it follows their guidelines, their conditions. The military rulers don't really care about the dead and dying that have littered the roads for the last 8 days. Their inability to effectively distribute the basic aid that is required, and at the same time insisting that certain aid organizations are not welcome is outrageous. It tells me that we are dealing with a group of Fascist, who are quite willing to allow thousands to die a slow death, rather than exposing the population to the possibility of interacting with others who can offer massive relief to their condition.

I do not think that this is funny. First, regarding Tibet issue there are 2 types of sound. Unfortunenately you are just listen and believe on one side and erase the voice from other. Is it fair enough? How do you know that which side is correct? Maybe both were wrong. Secondly, what does life means to you? Ryoichi Sasakawa-san said, world is one family, all mankind are brothers and sisters. Probably this is just a slogan for you, meaningless to you! What I have in my mind is at this tough period, the most important thing was not what we want but what those victims need. Although Myanmar junta has stopped the aid from reaching to the victims, but this should not be the reason for us to hands-off in this issue. Luckily a lot of countries are still trying very hard in helping them. I am not saying that you must make donation for them, although you are encourage to do so, but at least you should pray for them with your wormest heart.

Yes. As much as we should leave politix out of tragedies like this, it will affect giving.
