What hurts the most is that many retailers are taking advantage of the so called Weak Yen and ripping the general public off Left Right and Center, almost all are jumping the bandwagon in the name of inflation even when it has NO Impact at their operations at all.

Banks, Finance companies, Realtors, Insurance Company, even my Toilet septic tank checker increased the fee by 5,400 yen / year, and when I asked for the reason I was told Gasoline prices but the price of gasoline barley changed from a year ago except for the thieves in big cities, so I cancelled my contract and decided to change companies.

Made a recent trip back to Australia an eye-opening experience.

Costs are way up there, and paying with ¥, seemed like a double hit.

I understand now why millions of tourists are flocking to Japan - it's cheap.

But for those of us here, buying stuff, esp imported like a piece of cheese becomes a can I or can't I / should I or shouldn't I decision.

Higher food bill (family of five), higher energy bill, though somewhat government assisted, less willing to travel overseas due to high costs, less likely to retire overseas if I wanted to.

Lots of negative things, which are not personally compensated by "oh but Toyota can sell more cars".

It hasn't affected me because I live here. Should it be?

I live in Japan but my income is from the UK so I'm loving it!

But obviously having sympathy for those finding times hard..

Many good points mentioned here such as hesitancy to travel abroad, insurance companies ripping us off by raising prices for absolutely no reason, and the thought that I may not be able to retire in my home country one day but now I will need to just go with the flow. I will also add things like shopping for products online overseas has been unpleasant. There are still things like deodorant, tooth paste, and other products I use simply because I grew up using them and enjoy them. Now, I am hesitant to pay the extra price and end up using the garbage 8x4 they sell here and it stinks!

Monthly contributions to my SP500 fund go a lot less farther than before.

Income derived from overseas has been a benefit, but costs such as living expenses and travel overseas have been biting. So far it's been a moderate positive, but not sure how long that will last.

Greatly. I have to pay a lot more for everything. Considering that all the gear I need for my job comes from abroad, I try to get everything I need from Mercari.

Traveling abroad to visit family including my ageing parents, or simply to travel, the exchange greatly discourages me from doing so.

Plus most energy is imported so that's adds.

Unlike most expats on here the weak yen has been a godsend. Since I'm paid in USD it's effectively increased my paycheck 1.5 times and reduced my cost of living by 1.5 times if not more. I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

That's been my experience. Its especially hard on families since everything gets more expensive exponentially.

Absolutely. Cutthroat mentality makes the whole crisis harder to navigate.

Due to weak Yen, the Inflation also went into an overdrive increasing prices of everything, but most important the living expenses.

Also, the flight tickets sky rocketed during the weakest Yen period, making planning for overseas trips or holidays very difficult nowadays.

Another downside, is the influx of foreign tourist, which they callously brag on various social media on " how cheap" the proces are in Japan for various services, hotels, restaurants, etc, while the live for the local resident was getting harder and harder.
