Optimistic scenario :

Japan 2 - 1 Ivory Coast

Japan 0 - 0 Greece

Japan 0 - 2 Columbia

Group standings

Columbia 3 - 0 - 0 Japan 1 - 1 - 1 Ivory Coast 1 - 0 - 2 Greece 0 - 1 - 2

Japan will win the world cup " The new World Cup Champions"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bookies see Japan as pretty much 50-50 to progress past the group stage. They would be underdogs against Italy or Uruguay ( the most likely qualifiers from their group ) in the last 16. I like to bet on the World Cup but I'm not betting on Japan's group. Too close to call.

Make it through the Group stages but , depending who they meet in knockout, only slim chance after that

Japan has a better balanced team than the past 2010 World Cup with a varied mix of experience and age including more players with experience playing in Europe. The younger players have developed and matured and the quality of soccer in Japan has been improving. We hope that Japan can qualify from Group C. However they face a strong Greek team and will have a difficult and challenging time. They will also have to fight it out with the Ivory Coast team to claim the other spot for the round 16. Naturally Columbia will be the favorite at the moment. Honda will be the spark plug and their key player to focus on. Go Samurai Blue! Ganbare Nippon and never, never, never, give up! Good Luck!

0-3, with plenty of talk about fighting spirit and doing their best.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Hard to say. But if they score a single goal, get ready for that goal to be replayed over and over on TV from a hundred different angles, even if it's just a tap-in from five yards out.

Some good news for Japan. Falcao, Columbia's top scorer in qualifying, is out of the World Cup.

I don't know how the team will do, but I can predict with 100% accuracy that when the team does lose, the talking heads will trot out a tired old list of excuses as to why the team lost, all to minimize the accomplishment of the other team while diffusing the onus on the "Samurai Blue."

As long as S.Korea is out same or before us, it's ok.
