How should airlines deal with unruly and inconsiderate passengers during a flight?

Depends on the situation and circumstances

Sound proof penalty box.

Sound proof penalty box.

An incentive to be rowdy! Make 'em walk the wing, aaaarrrr!

A strict warning about the passenger disrupting peace on the airplane.

A warning that inappropriate behaviour unfitting of a civilized person will bear sanctions.

Any way they please. Air crew, much like ship crew, have absolutely authority over the situation at hand.

Put prevention over cure.

Increase leg-room, improve service, lower extra/over weight baggage prices, stop overbooking, curb the excessive pennypinching at every possible turn, lower prices, stop serving alcohol, remove hidden fees.

The airlines consistently make air travel more uncomfortable and unpleasant, then cry and moan because passengers are becoming more stressed and volatile. It's the airlines' fault.

Restraint, arrest on arrival and banned from ever flying again.

I've had too many flights with, usually drunk, morons.

Warning at first with clear repercussions for failing to obey.

1 more warning then ...

Gag and hand restraints after 2nd warning.

Was on a long flight when a guy who became very unhappy after the airline ran out of the free beer, but wouldn't give away premium beer. The head of the service staff raised his voice at the passenger enough that everyone in that cabin could hear. The captain came out a few minutes prior to landing the B747 and asked the passenger to write a letter.

Travel is often stressful, but people on both sides need to remain respectful. When that fails, actions are necessary for the safety of everyone else.

Tasers, zip ties, ball gags and, if all else fails, tranquilizer guns, and that's just for unruly small children who won't stop kicking the back of your seat.
