How would you feel about having robots as domestic servants?

Not good. Growing up doing one's own chores or letting one's children do their share of the chores is one of the key ways that RESPONSIBILITY can be taught/learnt. Of course, the same applies whether or not you have human domestic helpers (not "servants"). Children should be taught responsibility around the house because certain things will be taken for granted later on. According to an article I saw yesterday, the Obama parents said that their daughters will still need to do chores around the (White) house and that is good, regardless of status.

This is progress? I can see how it can help those with disabilities but for able-bodied people I see dependency on robots as a kind of slavery, not freedom. More human interaction, not less - that's what I'd like to see.

Good question. When robots get to that point, I don't we'll have to worry about the lack of human interaction anymore.

Anything that can do the housekeeping and thus free up my time for more valuable tasks such as watching tv or looking at filth on the internet must be good, just so long as it doesn't force me to become involved with my wife and kids.

How about a robotic Vacuums and Moppers, like the iRobot Roomba and Scooba?

proper robots follows the 3 laws of the robotics and are incapable of causing harm to human. With the zeroth law of the robotics, humanity's future is assured. Google Issac Asimov and his robot stories.

I've read Asimov. With the zeroth law humanity is saved, but individual lives are expendable. I don't think I'll really care about the fate of humanity if I'm in the grave.

They call the Roomba a 'robot', but it's really just a fully automatic vacuum cleaner (and does its job very well, would be lost without mine...). When people say 'robot' I think they really mean an artificial human. If it's going to be so human I find myself saying thank you when it hands me my tea and worrying about what it's doing on its day off, I think I'd rather not have one. Machinery and automation to take the drudgery out of housework, I'm all in favour of.

Im all for robots. There is far too much human interaction in Tokyo. Why, just today, the assistant at the gyudon shop made eye contact with me when he took my money. Im ok with such a thing, but its the shy salariman that I worry about. He doesnt have the grounding to handle such a situation.

For an elderly person who values their privacy and independence such a device would be better than a person they can not trust.

Well eventually the AI equipped home appliances would take over all todays mechanized appliances and tomorrows robots. Why?! because that is more realistic future and more efficiency. search darpa grand challenge ai cars. you will understand what I meant.

I'd be cool with it, but I doubt all my human help would be.
